Between Sicily and the North African coast, the island of Malta offers a camping holiday full of bathing pleasures and cultural treasures. There are relics from the Stone Age to discover as well as the legacy of the once mighty Order of Malta. Malta's capital Valletta is also impressive, rising out of the Mediterranean like a rocky bastion and reminiscent of an open-air museum made of sandstone. In the heart of Malta, the medieval beauty of Mdina beckons visitors to stroll through its dreamy alleyways. The seaside resort of Il-Mellieħa in the north-west of the island is ideal for a camping holiday, with beautiful beaches and the Popeye Village theme park. The red beach of Għajn Tuffieħa is a real discovery. Ferry trips to Malta's neighbouring islands of Gozo and Comino are also great.
