The hilly landscape of the Vienna Woods stretches from the Lainzer Tiergarten in Vienna's city centre to the picturesque Mostviertel in the west. The 45 km long low mountain range is a popular holiday destination for those seeking peace and quiet, families and active people. Countless excursion destinations await guests, from the Sparbach Nature Park with its numerous wild animals to the impressive Heiligenkreuz Abbey and the elegant casino in Baden. Nature lovers are drawn to the unspoilt River Gölsen when camping in the Vienna Woods. The 20-kilometre-long Gölsen cycle path runs directly along the riverbank from Ramsau via Hainfeld to Rohrbach. Thanks to the flat route, it is also suitable for families. There are also well-equipped campsites in the northern part of the Vienna Woods. Here, holidaymakers can stay close to the picturesque town of Klosterneuburg, for example, which is famous for its canon monastery. Two climate zones characterise the weather in the Vienna Woods. While a relatively dry climate prevails in the north, alpine influences determine temperatures and precipitation in the south. There are also large temperature differences in the Vienna Woods throughout the year. In summer, temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius and above are possible, while in winter it is often frosty all day long, especially at high altitudes. From April to October, camping in the Vienna Woods offers perfect weather for excursions. With average highs of up to 24 degrees Celsius, it is warmest from June to August. Romantics like to choose September and October as the time to travel, when the leaves of the Vienna Woods change colour to shades of yellow, red and orange.
