A camping holiday by the Baltic Sea on the beautiful island of Rügen is relaxing and varied. Between forests and green meadows in the midst of marvellous nature and the vast Baltic Sea lie the campsites on the extensive sandy beaches. The typical beach chair idyll of the Baltic Sea offers relaxation and attractive leisure activities for the whole family. Whether surfing, hiking or cycling, Rügen has an extensive hiking network and many places of interest.
There is a lot to discover and experience for camping holidaymakers on Rügen. In the dunes and forests, with the wind at your back, you can explore the whole island, on the network of hiking trails or on the waters of the Baltic Sea.
Rügen offers many opportunities around the island for surfing, kitesurfing or sailing in one of the largest and most exciting areas in Germany. Many campsites are located directly on the water and offer suitable courses. From getting on a beginner's board for the first time to advanced courses, everything is on offer for guests. It is advisable to book courses in advance, as equipment can be hired on site.
The 1000-hectare nature reserve between Sellin and Binz is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. The lush forest lies in the south-east of the island of Rügen and is home to a rich tree population, including many beeches and sessile oaks. There are many burial mounds and mysterious megalithic tombs to discover here. The moonlight hikes to the hunting lodge by night are popular with visitors and the guided day hikes on the well-signposted forest trails are also very popular.
The old steam locomotive Rasender Roland is a genuine vintage railway and a lovingly maintained gem of its kind. The narrow-gauge railway network runs via Putbus and Binz to Sellin and Baabe as well as to the terminus in Göhren. A trip on the steam locomotive through the forests and countryside of Rügen is a real highlight for the whole family.
Entertaining events and activities for the whole family take place all over the island. From music and fish markets to summer festivals, there is something for everyone.
