Campingplatz Neustein
Campingplatz Neustein

The Kiel Fjord, formed during the Ice Age, stretches from the Baltic Sea to the centre of Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein. Along the 17 km long waterway, well-kept campsites on the Kiel Fjord invite you to enjoy a varied holiday: Excursions to the Baltic Sea beaches or to Kiel, hikes and water sports provide plenty of variety.

Special features of camping on the Kiel Fjord

Families like to choose the campsites on the Kiel Fjord in the north. From here, it's not far to the beautiful Baltic Sea beaches. Those seeking peace and quiet can take a seat on the shore and watch the passing ocean liners heading for Kiel harbour. One of the spots is located near the popular Baltic Sea resort of Laboe with its breathtaking coastal scenery.

Water sports enthusiasts are in their element in the Kiel Fjord. Sailors and surfers can perfect their technique at the water sports school in Kiel Friedrichsort. There is also the opportunity to try out the trendy sport of stand-up paddling (SUP). Those interested in culture, for example, are drawn to Kiel from the campsite on the Kiel Fjord near Heikendorf on the east coast. Highlights of the city include the Maritime Museum and the mighty brick church of St Nikolai on the Alter Markt.

Weather

As you should expect rainfall at any time of year on the Baltic Sea and Kiel Fjord, it is worth taking rainwear with you when camping. Most campsites are closed in the wettest months from November to February.

From May to August, the weather in northern Germany is the friendliest. Around Kiel, the sun shines for 7 or more hours a day. Those travelling to the Kiel Fjord for a swim will find the most pleasant water temperatures of over 20 degrees Celsius from June to August.
