On the mountain slopes of the Odenwald, historic castles exude the romance of knights. An extensive network of hiking and cycling trails delights active holidaymakers and campers with dogs. The charm of the Neckar Valley lies in the harmonious combination of nature, culture and modernity. When camping with children, families go on exciting excursions to the fairytale trail. Lively towns along the more than 350 km long river valley invite you to visit them: The astronomical clock in Heilbronn and the bridge monkey in Heidelberg are popular photo motifs.
Whether it's the Nibelungenstrasse, the Odenwald or around the four-castle town of Neckarsteinach - no matter where camping enthusiasts stay, the campsites in the Neckar Valley are located in the most beautiful places. Families with children, hiking enthusiasts and sporty types particularly appreciate the wild and romantic location of the holiday resorts directly on the banks of the river. Along the Baden-Württemberg and Bavarian border, nature lovers can enjoy hiking on the legendary Nibelungensteig trail or sporting challenges while cycling along the Bergstrasse. Leisure captains can sail across the river on an excursion boat. The campsites in the Neckar Valley have spacious pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes. Camping in rented accommodation is also possible in the Neckar Valley. In addition to modern sanitary facilities and free Wi-Fi, the standard facilities at many campsites in the Neckar Valley also include a practical bread delivery service and a children's playground.
A good 2,000 years ago, the Romans used the particularly favourable climate in the Neckar Valley to grow wine. The climate is characterised by pleasant average temperatures, low rainfall and plenty of sunshine. The average amount of sunshine per year is well over 1,800 hours. The moderately warm climate ensures warm summers and mild winters in the Neckar Valley, and Heidelberg's city climate spoils visitors with an average daily maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius in July and August. Camping in the Neckar Valley is also ideal in the first days of spring or in the colourful autumn: in May and September, many guests go on extended hiking tours at a maximum temperature of 19 degrees Celsius. In midsummer, the water temperature of the Neckar reaches around 20 degrees Celsius.
