However, the Lüneburg Heath is not only famous for its purple-coloured flowers, but also for the adorable Heidschnucken sheep that graze along the cycle paths and hiking trails. You don't necessarily have to book a stay at the campsite in late summer to see the heather in bloom. This is possible all year round in the heather garden in the Höpen nature reserve, where 200 different species can be seen. Nature fans can also plan a tour of the Pietmoor. The circular trail is around 5 kilometres long and leads through the fascinating moorland landscape. The Lüneburg Heath is a paradise for cyclists. There are family-friendly, short circular tours as well as long-distance cycle routes to choose from. There are also good shopping facilities and restaurants in the climatic health resort of Schnevendingen.
