Whether swimming in the Atlantic, golfing on the Cornouaille green, hiking through the hinterland or cycling along the coast - every generation of campers is sure to find a leisure activity to suit their taste around the campsites in La Forêt-Fouesnant. The marshes and cliffs to the north of the village are an attraction, after which holidaymakers can go surfing on the ocean, take a dive or try their hand at waterskiing; the swimming paradise of Les Balnèides is tropical.

Special features of camping in La Forêt-Fouesnant

The French village in the south-west of Brittany borders the Atlantic Ocean, where colourful fishing boats bob leisurely on the water in the old harbour. All around, well-tended gardens with lush floral decorations and numerous fruit trees characterise the scenery. Once holidaymakers have reached their campsite in La Forêt-Fouesnant, they are immediately certain that they have made the right choice.

Camping in La Forêt-Fouesnant is usually possible between April and September. Most of the pitches are located directly by the sea or in the immediate vicinity of the water. In addition to the general basic facilities such as sanitary facilities, washing machines, electricity and hot water, some operators offer their campers a swimming pool, the possibility of bringing dogs and a seasonal entertainment programme for children and adults.

How to get there

The holiday destination of La Forêt-Fouesnant is 1,440 km, 1,596 km, 1,382 km, 1,114 km and 1,044 km away from Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and Cologne respectively. The classic journey is via Paris, which is 550 km west of the destination. Many travellers use the French capital for an overnight stay in order to continue their journey the following day. Others combine their camping holiday with a city trip and use their time flexibility for a sightseeing tour lasting several days. It should generally be noted that there is heavy rush hour traffic in and around the world metropolis in the morning and afternoon.

An alternative for a stage destination is Normandy. In particular, the lower traffic volume and the impressive landscape speak in favour of the north of France, where places worth seeing such as Rouven, Le Havre or Caen tempt you to take a break from your journey. But no matter which route you choose, France charges a toll for using the motorways, which is supplemented by city, bridge and tunnel tolls in some places.

Vehicles are categorised according to their overall height and weight. Payment is made at authorised payment points, which only accept credit cards or cash. It is not possible to pay the toll with an EC/Maestro card.

Activities and excursions

Forest and sea. This excellent combination offers many sporting opportunities. Or perhaps you'd prefer to follow in the footsteps of interesting buildings and stone artefacts?

Out and about in the holiday resort

The ruins of the Stone Age megalithic site are just as fascinating as the harbour of La Forêt-Fouesnant, which is also home to the training camp of the French national sailing regatta team. The generously designed harbour not only has room for countless sailing boats, but also excursion boats. The light sandy Plage de Kerléven beach and the 18-hole course of the Golf Club de Cornouaille start right behind it.

Market and tradition

Every Sunday, holidaymakers have the opportunity to stroll through the market in La Forêt-Fouesnant and stock up on fresh local produce. In the summer months, holidaymakers can enjoy concerts and culinary delights in the harbour; costume parades and dances are an integral part of the traditional village festival at the end of June.

Interesting things to do nearby

Whether by bike or on foot, the nearby coastal town of Concarneau will delight you with its historic centre. Picturesquely surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean, the town walls and Fort du Cabellou offer marvellous panoramic views. No less worth seeing: the Saint Corentin Cathedral in Quimper with its leaning choir.

Gastronomy

A stay in La Forêt-Fouesnant is like a gourmet holiday, in which fish naturally plays an important culinary role. A plateau de fruits de mer, a seafood platter with mussels, crabs, oysters and much more, is particularly popular. No less flavourful is lobster, served in a tasty tomato and wine sauce with a garnish of edible seaweed.

When it comes to meat dishes, ox, beef and pork, for example the meat stew Kig-ha-farz, are high on the menu. Goose foie gras and frogs' legs are also an integral part of Breton restaurants. But the classic par excellence are the golden-yellow crêpes with or without filling. The Bretons drink a fine wine from the Loire riverbanks, their local Breizh Cola or the cider Cidre.

Weather

Although temperatures in La Forêt-Fouesnant fluctuate between 13°C and 17°C in spring, the months of April and May are recommended for cycling or hiking excursions in the countryside. Or perhaps you prefer sightseeing? From June, the thermometer reaches the 20°C mark. But thanks to the pleasant winds, influenced by the Atlantic currents, it doesn't get noticeably hot even in the summer high season.

July and August are considered the sunniest months in the coastal resorts of Brittany, with average temperatures of 23°C and above. From September to October, the air is still a mild 20°C. A light jumper and a windproof jacket are recommended even in summer. The water temperature in the Atlantic is at its warmest in August at 17°C.
