Favourite places in the region

With its beautiful location in the Black Regen river valley, Viechtach is the most popular resort in the region. The climatic health resort not only offers great scenery, but also a beautiful historic market square, the fascinating crystal museum and a rococo church that is famous far beyond the region. Also worth a visit is the historic castle village of Kollnburg, which, in addition to its idyllic castle ruins, offers marvellous views of the Bavarian Forest and is an excellent starting point for exploring the region. A paradise for hikers and nature lovers is the small town of Lindberg, which lies right on the edge of the Bavarian Forest National Park.

Viechtach

Viechtach is the cultural centre of the region and is particularly popular with visitors due to its unusually mild climate. But there is also a lot to see here: Popular attractions include the local crystal museum, the listed "Nostalgiehaus" on the market square and the magnificent parish church of St Augustine, which is also known as the "Cathedral of the Bavarian Forest" and is one of the most beautiful rococo churches in the region. In summer, Viechtach is a great starting point for hikes up the local mountain Kronberg or canoe tours on the Black Rain. The local outdoor pool is popular with families.

Kollnburg

The romantic castle village of Kollnburg is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the Viechtach region. The village's landmarks are the castle tower and the fountain of the Kollnburg castle ruins, from where you can enjoy magnificent views of the Bavarian Forest. Thanks to its idyllic location above the Riedbachtal and Aitnachtal valleys, the castle village is a good starting point for relaxed walks, mountain bike tours and hikes, for example on the Kollnburger Pröllersteig nature trail. Kollnburg is also well known among motorcyclists. The reason for this is the unique private collection of historic motorbikes in the Wurzelhaus.

Lindberg

Thanks to its location on the edge of the Bavarian Forest National Park, Lindberg is the perfect starting point for hikers and nature lovers. Highlights include the Lindberger Schachten - old grazing areas in the middle of the forest - and the primeval forest area around the Höllbachgspreng, which is one of the scenic highlights of the Bavarian Forest. Also popular are ascents of the Großer and Kleiner Falkenstein and - especially with families - the red deer enclosure in Scheuereck. The Ludwigsthal parish church is a cultural and architectural highlight. The building is the only Art Nouveau church in the Bavarian Forest.
