Located south of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg, campsites in the Nordheide invite nature lovers, families and dog owners to enjoy a relaxing holiday in this special region of the Lüneburg Heath. Walks, longer hikes and cycle tours take you through hilly heathland or rare moorland landscapes such as the Hangquellmoor or the Große Evestorfer Moor with its unique fauna. Numerous excursion destinations such as the Schwarze Berge wildlife park or the Kiekeberg open-air museum will delight young and old alike.
From Hamburg in the north to Soltau in the south, there are campsites in the Nordheide. Nature lovers and families will find many bathing lakes that are an Eldorado for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. It only takes around half an hour to drive from the small town of Buchholz to Hamburg, where many attractions invite you to take a detour to the metropolis. There are also child-friendly campsites in the Nordheide around Soltau. Dogs are very welcome here. The town is located directly on the 223 km long Heidschnuckenweg trail, which leads through the gently undulating, partly wooded landscape of the Lüneburg Heath. 24 selected, well-developed cycle paths invite you to enjoy relaxing tours through idyllic and fascinating nature parks.
The months of May to August offer the friendliest weather with an average of seven hours of sunshine per day. This is also when it is at its warmest, with average highs of 23 degrees Celsius. When the broom heather blooms purple from the beginning of August to mid-September, the ambience for hiking is particularly romantic with mild temperatures averaging at least 19 degrees Celsius. The North Heath owes its lush flora to a temperate, warm and humid climate. As there is regular rainfall, it is advisable to bring rainwear - especially for excursions into the countryside. Most campsites open in March or April, when the frost period is almost over and the thermometer rises to a pleasant 15 degrees.
