The university and trade fair city of Leipzig is a great destination for a relaxing camping holiday. The diverse cultural offerings and charming cityscape make the Saxon metropolis an ideal holiday destination, especially for those interested in culture. In addition to museums, opera houses and theatres, the extensive green spaces, such as the famous Bürgergärten and the magical Auenwald forest on the outskirts of the city, are also a delight. Families with children can explore the charming surrounding countryside on day trips and long walks. The idyllic lakes and waters of Leipzig's Neuseenland region invite you to enjoy a relaxing camping holiday by the lake.
The well-known university and trade fair city in the federal state of Saxony is equally suitable for culture enthusiasts and nature lovers. The campsites are mostly located in the nearby Leipziger Neuseenland or in the middle of the green oasis of the Leipziger Auenwald. Here, nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet surrounded by tall ash, alder and maple trees get their money's worth. At the same time, the lively city centre with its churches, museums and large shopping centres is only a few minutes' drive away. Leipzig offers a rich cultural programme with many museums and exhibitions. For example, guests can explore the collections of the German Museum of Books and Writing, follow in the footsteps of the famous baroque musician at the Bach Museum and listen to a performance of his works in the magnificent St Thomas Church. Families with children can spend eventful days in the climbing forest, at Leipzig Zoo or relaxing at one of the many lakes in the surrounding area. Many campsites around Leipzig allow dogs. There are also designated dog beaches at a number of lakes, such as Lake Cospuden, Lake Kulkwitz and Lake Schladitz. The beautiful Leipzig New Lake District and the Auenwald forest are particularly suitable for long walks with your four-legged friend. Active holidaymakers and cyclists can also look forward to an excellent network of cycling and hiking trails.
In addition to pitches for caravans, many campsites around Leipzig also offer motorhome pitches, tent pitches and rental accommodation or mobile homes. There are also special motorhome harbours with waste disposal stations. In some cases, holiday homes, guest rooms or more unusual accommodation such as tent houses or glamping huts are also available to rent.
The beautifully located KNAUS Campingpark in the middle of Leipzig's Auenwald forest is the perfect place to go for anyone who wants to spend their camping holiday in the countryside without having to sacrifice proximity to the city. The beautiful Auensee lake is in the immediate neighbourhood. There is also a large children's playground, sports fields and barbecue areas on site. No wonder the campsite is so popular with families.
Another wonderful campsite by the water is Camping am Kulkwitzer See. With its crystal-clear water and visibility of up to 20 metres, the lake is particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts, anglers and divers. The great location between shady trees on an idyllic peninsula also makes the site a wonderful place to relax. Leipzig can be reached from here in just a few minutes by bike.
Lake Markkleberg is one of the most charming lakes in Leipzig's Neuseenland region. So it makes perfect sense to spend your camping holiday on its shores! The rather small campsite on Lake Markkleberg is just a few minutes' walk from the lake and is an ideal place for those seeking peace and quiet. The campsite's own restaurant, which serves delicious local specialities such as Leipziger Allerlei, is also highly recommended. The Auenhain Model Park is also located close to the campsite - a great destination for families.
In addition to a tour of the city, it is also worth exploring the beautiful countryside surrounding Leipzig. One of the most popular local recreation areas is certainly the Leipzig New Lake District, which invites you to spend relaxing hours by the water, go on bike tours and take long walks with the whole family. Another great excursion destination is the village of Kriebstein with its beautiful knight's castle and the impressive Kriebstein Dam. A highlight for a short city trip is the town of Delitzsch, also known as the "town of towers" - a real gem of medieval architecture and one of the most beautiful places in the region.
To the south of Leipzig, the Leipziger Neuseenland region with its four lakes invites you to enjoy swimming in beautiful surroundings. In summer, a trip to Lake Cospuden is particularly worthwhile, as it is a real magnet for sun worshippers and bathing holidaymakers. But active holidaymakers should also plan a detour to the water. The more than 10 km long path around the lake is ideal for cycling, inline skating or walking. There are also a number of campsites on the shores of Lake Markleeberg, Lake Zwenkau and Lake Störmthal. There is also a popular motorhome harbour on Lake Störmthal.
There are many castles and palaces worth seeing in Saxony. One of the most charming is Kriebstein Castle, the "most beautiful knight's castle in Saxony". The medieval fortification towers imposingly over the small community and has lost none of its beauty to this day. No wonder that the castle has been the setting for a number of films. But Kriebstein has another highlight to offer: The Kriebstein dam is one of the most impressive dams in Saxony and is a popular excursion destination for nature lovers, hikers and cyclists. A trip in a canoe or rowing boat is particularly recommended.
Thanks to its high density of towers, the small town of Delitzsch in Saxony is known as the "town of towers". The best way to explore the listed old town is to take a long walk through the picturesque alleyways. Pretty little cafés and restaurants are ideal for a stopover. In addition to the magnificent town centre, the local baroque castle is also worth a visit. The former moated castle has a beautiful castle garden, which is particularly inviting for a stroll in fine weather. The small but beautiful Delitzsch zoo, where exotic animals such as kangaroos, dwarf flamingos and zebras can be marvelled at, is very popular with families.
For holidaymakers who want to spend even more time in eastern Germany, an extended road trip in a motorhome is just the right holiday programme.
