Camping Mare
Camping Mare

Wild cliffs, a long white sandy beach and many hours of sunshine: Camping in the Baltic seaside resort of Grömitz is a real dream, especially for beach holidaymakers. But nature lovers can also spend a wonderfully relaxing holiday in the popular holiday resort in the Bay of Lübeck in the midst of a beautiful coastal landscape. Numerous exciting excursion destinations and leisure activities in the surrounding area also make Grömitz the ideal holiday destination for campers with the whole family.

Special features of camping in Grömitz

Grömitz is located on the north-western edge of the Bay of Lübeck in Schleswig-Holstein and is best known for its 8 kilometres of fine sandy beach. Most of the campsites in Grömitz are located directly behind the dyke, so it is only a few steps to the sea. Grömitz is therefore ideal for beach holidaymakers, who can also look forward to many hours of sunshine thanks to its south-facing location. Dog owners also feel right at home in Grömitz, as there are several dog beaches on the beach where four-legged companions can romp around and play in the water.

As a traditional Baltic seaside resort, Grömitz is one of the most popular holiday resorts on the Baltic Sea. So there is never a dull moment here and there is always something going on on the lively beach promenade. Here, guests can stroll between pretty little boutiques, cosy restaurants and trendy bars. Numerous beach playgrounds are dotted along the promenade, so even the little ones won't get bored. A walk to the almost 400 metre long pier, from where you have a perfect view of Grömitz, is particularly beautiful. An alternative to camping in Grömitz is an overnight stay in a beach chair. There are more than 2,000 beach chairs all along the beach - sleeping beach chairs for up to 2 people can also be rented overnight at several locations. Here you get the best views of the sea and can fall asleep to the sound of the waves. For motorhome owners, there is also the spacious "Achtern Diek" motorhome park on Lenster Strand.

Popular campsites in Grömitz

In addition to camping pitches for caravans, the campsites in Grömitz usually also offer rental accommodation, mobile homes and beach houses for overnight stays. The pitches usually offer fresh water connections and electricity. The sanitary facilities are clean and are cleaned regularly. There is usually also a restaurant and a grocery shop on the pitches.

Camping Sonnenland

In a marvellous location between the dunes and the Baltic Sea, the Sonnenland campsite on Lenster Strand is a real camping paradise. It is one of the few campsites in the Bay of Lübeck that is not located behind the dyke, but directly on the beach. The fact that this is a particularly beautiful natural beach only makes it even better. There is a nudist beach adjacent to the site and the Lenster Strand dog beach is also very close by.

Baltic Sea campsite Kagelbusch

The well-equipped Baltic Sea campsite Kagelbusch on the beautiful natural beach of Bliesdorf-Strand is an ideal destination for families in particular. Two playgrounds and children's entertainment ensure that the kids never get bored. There is also a wide range of leisure activities such as a fitness trail, tennis court, basketball, football and table tennis. The camping pitches and especially the rental accommodation are very popular in the high season. We therefore recommend booking in good time.

Ostseecamp Hohe Leuchte

The beautiful and family-friendly Hohe Leuchte campsite with its location on the beautiful natural beach area of Lensterstrand is particularly popular with nature lovers. From here you can explore the surrounding area on walks and cycle tours. Of course, you can also just relax on the beach and enjoy the peace and quiet. Dogs are welcome on the site, and there are also several caravans for hire.

Camping Mare

The quiet and well-kept Camping Mare is located directly behind the dyke and is just a stone's throw from the beach. The centre of Grömitz is also not far away on foot or by bike. The pitches are parcelled out by hedges and offer plenty of privacy. If you wish, you can also rent additional bathrooms or family bathrooms for up to 4 people during your stay. The site is open all year round and camping with dogs is permitted on selected pitches.

Favourite places in the region

There is also plenty to see in Grömitz away from the beach promenade. A great excursion destination for the whole family, for example, is the Schneekloth fruit farm, where you can pick your own fruit in summer. The Lensahn museum farm provides an exciting insight into everyday life in times gone by. The old Benedictine abbey of Cismar Monastery is a wonderful place of peace and relaxation.

Schneekloth fruit farm

The Schneekloth fruit farm is located directly at the entrance to Grömitz. There is a nice farm café and a farm shop where you can buy regional specialities. The highlight, however, is the orchard: visitors can let off steam on over 15 hectares and pick strawberries, raspberries, cherries and other delicious fruit throughout the summer. Children also get their money's worth here: in addition to a playground, there is a small petting zoo to keep them amused. Pony rides are also offered at the fruit farm.

Historical museum farm in Lensahn

Visitors to the historic museum farm in Lensahn embark on a real journey through time. In the museum workshop, craftsmen and silversmiths make everyday objects and handicrafts just as they did in the past. The farm is also a great destination for nature lovers. On the 2.4 km nature trail, you can stroll through the fields and tree-lined avenues of the estate, discover old fruit varieties and take a break under romantic willow arbours. The observation tower offers a particularly beautiful view of the grounds.

Cismar Monastery

The old Cismar Monastery offers an exciting insight into the history of the Benedictine order. It is also a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet in the cosy café. In addition to church services, the monastery is also a venue for events and concerts in summer. One highlight is the monastery festival on the second weekend in August. Artists and craftspeople demonstrate their work over three days at the festival.

Sights and excursion tips

  • Noah's Ark Zoo: adventurous guests can take a guided tour of the zoo in Grömitz with the zookeepers. Here they can experience chimpanzees, camels and porcupines up close during feedings.
  • Grömitz diving gondola: If you prefer a visit with sea creatures, take the diving gondola at the Grömitz pier down into the clear waters of the Bay of Lübeck. Without a snorkel or diving goggles, the enclosed capsule reveals an impressive underwater world with fish, jellyfish and crabs.
  • Grömitzer Welle: The Grömitzer Welle seawater pool is the perfect destination for a day out in bad weather. Water slides, a current channel, geysers, waterfalls and, of course, the wave that gives it its name provide fun and variety. The outdoor terraces, which open directly onto the beach and the Baltic Sea, are also particularly popular.
  • Sea Life on Timmendorfer Strand: The Sea Life large aquarium on Timmendorfer Strand, which is unique in Germany, is just 30 minutes away and offers even more exciting underwater experiences. Visitors can marvel at the richness and diversity of the local and tropical underwater world in 38 aquariums.
  • Ostsee Kletterpark Grömitz: Thrills at dizzying heights and great views of the sea can be found in the high ropes course directly on Lenster Strand. Daredevils can put their climbing skills to the test at over 60 climbing stations and shimmy across the platforms using wire ropes and wooden planks.

Tour tip

Hansa-Park in Sierksdorf is Germany's only amusement park by the sea and a great destination for families with children. Adventurers of all ages can look forward to over 30 roller coasters and rides, including a water bobsleigh ride, a children's roller coaster and the 79 metre high hyper-coaster tower. Hans-Park also has a lot more to offer: colourful gardens, lovingly designed themed worlds, a huge indoor play world and a wide range of variety and acrobatic shows ## Insider tip Here's a tip from our colleague Winnie (Marketing): If you want to get some fresh air, you should definitely visit the beautiful cliffs to the west of Grömitz. The coast begins directly behind the Grömitz marina and is a great place to go for a walk. If you want, you can walk for kilometres to the neighbouring villages of Brodau, Altenbek or Rettin. A beautiful, not too long loop leads from Grömitz to Biesdorf Strand and back. As the land here is very flat, the cliffs are also perfect for cycling - the views of the Baltic Sea are simply fantastic.
