Rome, the Etruscans and the opulent Baroque architectural style attract holidaymakers to the sun-drenched Italian region of Lazio. Numerous luxury campsites in Lazio fulfil the desire of many families to experience the unspoilt nature of a place that can be regarded as the cradle of Italian culture. Nature lovers can easily reach the most famous sights with a shuttle service from the surrounding area or enjoy a romantic holiday by the sea or a lake.
Visitors to the Lazio region like to spend a lot of time in Rome. The campsites around the Eternal City therefore offer a very inexpensive shuttle bus service to the nearest train station with a direct connection to Stazzione Termini in the city centre. The often terraced pitches with separate, extra-large areas for motorhomes are nestled in the Mediterranean hilly landscape of Rome and offer stylish pools.
Campsites in Lazio also often have direct access to natural bodies of water. Ostia or Lago di Bolsena offer plenty of bathing fun. If you pitch your tent here, you will find yourself right in the middle of nature, exploring hiking trails or tasting the fruity white wine Frascati in the idyllic landscape of the Castelli di Roma around the two volcanic lakes Albano and Nemi.
The long season in Lazio begins as early as February, when you can drink your espresso outdoors and sit cosily with a glass of wine in a Roman piazza in the evening. This is still possible at the beginning of November, but holidaymakers should choose the months between May and October for swimming. This is also when the beaches of the Mediterranean are equipped with beach kiosks, parasols and sunbeds.
At the height of summer, many visitors find the Eternal City of Rome too hot at almost 40 degrees Celsius. Visits to the Colosseum, St Peter's Basilica or the baroque Trevi Fountain are more appropriate in spring or autumn. On rainy days, not only the museums of Rome are fascinating, but also Tivoli and Cerveteri with its Etruscan necropolises.
