Camping Del Sole Village
Camping Del Sole Village

Located at the south-eastern end of the lake of the same name, the small town of Iseo in the Italian province of Bergamo is an ideal starting point for long walks along the shore. As many campsites in Iseo have their own beach access, water lovers and families will be delighted to have the opportunity to cool off. Various dog-friendly campsites also welcome holidaymakers with their beloved four-legged friends.

Special features of camping in Iseo

The campsites in Iseo boast a quiet location surrounded by a unique natural landscape. Holidaymakers can look forward to bathing fun on the gently sloping shores of Lake Iseo. The peaks of the Bergamo Alps form a fascinating contrast to the blue water. The famous Italian wine-growing region of Franciacorta, where fine sparkling wines are produced, begins south of the campsites on Lake Iseo.

Countless leisure activities on land and water make the holiday region in Northern Italy a popular destination for families and active holidaymakers. Culture lovers are drawn from the eponymous town of Iseo to Brescia, around 22 kilometres away, where exciting historical relics can be visited. Bergamo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also just 56 kilometres away.

How to get there

The fourth largest lake in northern Italy is located between the Lombard provinces of Brescia and Bergamo, around 95 kilometres east of Milan. The best way to get there from Frankfurt is via Switzerland. It is around 740 km from the city on the Main to the campsite in Iseo. Take the 67 motorway, and later the A6 and A5, heading south.

The Swiss border at Basel is reached after around 330 kilometres. Please note that you need a vignette to use the local motorways. The A2 motorway leads through Switzerland to the Italian border at Chiasso. Here you can take a break at the Gotthardt motorway service area. At the foot of the Gotthard massif, travellers can relax in pleasant, tasteful surroundings and recharge their batteries. From here it is another 130 kilometres to the destination.

The journey from Munich is somewhat shorter: the 485 km lead via Rosenheim, Innsbruck, Bolzano, Trento and Bardolino to the holiday destination. The journey on the Austrian A13 motorway also requires a toll sticker.

Activities and excursions

Active holidaymakers can enjoy a wide range of leisure activities around Lake Iseo. Water sports enthusiasts like to meet up on the northern shore with its steep rock formations. The Lido Belvedere in the west of Iseo offers a lively alternative for the whole family. Those interested in culture, on the other hand, can look forward to magnificent castles or cities such as Brescia.

Leisure activities around Iseo

Iseo is home to the Lido Belvedere, a lido that invites locals and holidaymakers alike to picnic and sunbathe. The water slides and massage jets in the pool are also popular. When camping in Iseo, holidaymakers also appreciate the cultural flair of the small town. The Garibaldi monument is well worth a visit. Also worthwhile: around 18 kilometres north of Iseo in Cislano, there is a 2.5 kilometre hiking trail to the famous earth pyramids near Zone.

Natural and cultural highlights around the lake

We recommend a boat trip to Monte Isola. The best way to explore the car-free island is on a relaxing hike. On the way, you will pass the imposing Rocca di Sensole castle and the Madonna della Ceriola pilgrimage church. If you are interested in architecture, head to Brescia, 20 kilometres away. Historic buildings such as the old and new cathedral or the clock tower in Piazza della Loggia are among the city's landmarks.

Catering

There is a large selection of restaurants around the campsites on Lake Iseo, often with sun terraces and charming lake views. The restaurants also score points with their regional specialities: Fish lovers are particularly well catered for. Among the culinary highlights of the region are dried sardines, which are preserved in an elaborate process and marinated in olive oil. Bluefish and arrow carp are also popular.

Homemade casoncelli are typical of the region. These pasta dumplings are filled according to a traditional recipe with various types of meat, cheese, sultanas and almond macaroons. The fine wines from the nearby Franciacorta wine region are the perfect accompaniment.

Best time to visit

Due to the Mediterranean climate, the campsites on Lake Iseo are a destination with mild temperatures all year round. Largely frost-free but humid winters are followed by hot and dry summers. When nature awakens in March and the first buds appear, the campsites in Iseo also open. In spring, the snow-covered peaks of the surrounding Alps form an interesting contrast to the colourful blooms in the valley.

From June to September, the sun shines from the sky for seven to ten hours a day. Then the water warms up to 20 degrees Celsius and above. The months of July and August are ideal for a family and beach holiday with temperatures of up to 30 degrees.
