Autocamp Zlokovic
Autocamp Zlokovic

Camping in Montenegro is possible at all altitudes: here you can camp in the idyllic mountains as well as right by the lapping sea. The coast on the Adriatic Sea, with its numerous beaches and bays, is a dream holiday destination. Most campsites are located here due to their popularity with travellers. But campers also enjoy the tranquil forests and lakes of Montenegro.

Special features of camping in Montenegro

Montenegro's mountainous hinterland attracts many hikers, mountain bikers and mountaineers. Climbers don't miss out on this destination either, especially the area in the north with the highest mountain in Montenegro - Bobotov Kuk. This region is also home to the Durmitor National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a fantastic landscape. Bathing fans are particularly drawn to the campsites on the Adriatic coast in Montenegro. You can enjoy the sun and read a book in comfort on the many sandy beaches. For refreshment, take a dip in the clear water, where children can splash around freely all day long. In the south, just 7 kilometres from the Adriatic coast, is the huge Lake Skadar. Next to the calm waters lies the Skadarsko Jezero National Park: a true paradise for nature lovers.

Types of camping

Camping in Montenegro is possible in the mountains, by rivers, lakes, by the sea or in the forest. Due to the wide range of options, there is sure to be something for every holidaymaker.

Camping in the mountains

If you are camping at the aforementioned Bobotov Kuk, for example, there are other things to consider than when camping by the sea: the temperatures are usually cooler in the mountains and the infrastructure is sometimes not as good. You should take sufficient food with you in such regions.

Camping by the sea

Many travellers dream of a holiday with sun, beach and sea. When camping in Montenegro, this wish can become reality. There are pitches right next to the sea: you couldn't be closer to the water, the beach and the sun.

4 star camping

4-star camping combines the freedom and flexibility of the camper lifestyle with luxury. Here, holidaymakers can enjoy specialities in the restaurant or a cocktail at the beach bar. Children have fun in the playground or are entertained by the entertainment team. There is also free WIFI for campers, a laundry and modern toilets and showers.

How to get there

It is less than 1,300 kilometres from Munich to the Adriatic coast of Montenegro and Lake Skadar. The shortest route leads through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The best way to travel by caravan from Munich is via the A8 motorway, followed by the A10 and A2/E61. After that, you should stay on the E71 for more than 300 km and then continue on the E65 for another 100 km. With such a distance, a few stopovers are recommended. Families in particular are advised to take a longer break halfway along the route, in the north of Croatia. In Brinje, the Lika service area offers delicious meals in a cosy atmosphere. If you want to camp at Bobotov Kuk mountain and in Durmitor National Park - in the north of Montenegro - you will pass through the same countries, but the route changes from Slovenia onwards. From the A2/E61 motorway mentioned above, take the E70 and then the E73/M17. This route is 200 kilometres shorter than the first one mentioned, but a few stopovers are also recommended here.

Destinations in Montenegro

The region in the north of Montenegro, with the Bobotov Kuk and the Durmitor National Park, is worth a visit for sports enthusiasts, those seeking peace and quiet and nature lovers alike. The Adriatic coast and Lake Skadar are particularly recommended for swimming fans.

Tara Canyon

In the centre of Durmitor National Park - and therefore near Bobotov Kuk - lies Tara Canyon. Here, sports enthusiasts get their money's worth: in addition to rafting and mountain biking for the more active, there are fishing and hiking opportunities for the more leisurely. Not only the highest mountain, but also the longest river in Montenegro - the Tara - can be found in this region.

Ulcinj

Ulcinj is the southernmost town in Montenegro and is located directly on the Adriatic Sea. In the immediate vicinity is MCM Beach, one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the Montenegrin coast. In 2009, it was even honoured with an award for the best beach in the country. There is also MCM Camping, which stands out from the standard campsites with 4 stars.

Stari Bar

Also in the south of Montenegro, between the Adriatic Sea and Lake Skadar, lies the small town of Stari Bar. The highly idyllic landscape - with mountains, forests and rivers - is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet and nature lovers. Connoisseurs love the privacy and pleasant silence: camping in Stari Bar is all about getting back to basics.

Target groups

Sports enthusiasts look forward to hiking, cycling, mountaineering and climbing in Montenegro. Beach holidaymakers choose a warm season and take their caravan to the sea. Nature lovers, those seeking peace and quiet and dog owners choose an idyllic landscape in Montenegro.

Hikers

Montenegro offers particularly varied landscapes for hikers: On the Adriatic, the sea air refreshes the lungs and by the lake, the sight of the calm waters relaxes the mind. The national parks inspire with idyllic nature and in the mountains you can find peace and quiet while hiking.

Dog owners

Dogs are allowed at many campsites in Montenegro. Together with your beloved four-legged friend, you can explore the marvellous nature of the country: Varied walks - by the sea as well as in the forests and mountains - will definitely make your holiday something special.

Beach holidaymakers

The Adriatic offers great conditions for beach holidaymakers: Young and old alike enjoy the beautiful beaches and warm sea water. The huge Lake Skadar is also worth a holiday for swimming enthusiasts. Children can splash around in the water on their own while adults relax in the sun.

Best time to visit

The weather in Montenegro cannot be easily simplified: In contrast to the mountains, the Adriatic coast has a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters. In July and August, temperatures here sometimes exceed 30 degrees Celsius. With sea water averaging 26 degrees Celsius until well into October, bathing holidaymakers enjoy ideal conditions for a very long time. The mountain peaks have an Alpine climate, often with dense cloud cover. The skiing and snowboarding season in Montenegro runs from December to March. At lower altitudes, winters are also snowy and cold, but summers are pleasantly warm: ideal for sports enthusiasts and campers who prefer milder temperatures.
