When camping in Sør-Trøndelag in central Norway, guests can go on excursions to the islands of Hitra and Frøya, cycle along the Trondheimfjord or hike along the coast of the North Sea. The Norwegian province of Sør-Trøndelag boasts breathtaking nature in several national parks, endless hiking trails, ski resorts and family-friendly campsites close to the fjord and the sea. Whether camping with a dog or with the whole family - there is no shortage of varied activities in the impressive Norwegian countryside and, with a bit of luck, you might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Special features of camping in Sør-Trøndelag

When camping in Sør-Trøndelag, there is a wide choice of campsites. Some of the campsites are located on the islands off the coast, such as Hitra or Frøya, which can be easily reached via a bridge. The location in the North Sea invites visitors to take long walks along the coast or go cycling.

Other campsites in Sør-Trøndelag are located directly on the Trondheimfjord. A trip to the city of Trondheim is definitely worthwhile. Here, the famous warehouses in many different colours characterise the appearance of the city. The canal harbour and the many cosy cafés, museums, old bridges and the city's famous cathedral are also well worth a visit.

Best time to visit

For camping in Sør-Trøndelag, we mainly recommend the months from May to September. During this time, the temperatures are relatively mild at up to 23 degrees Celsius - good conditions for long hikes, fishing trips, walks and cycle tours through the Norwegian countryside.

In the months from March to May, the amount of precipitation is quite low. The spring months are also a good time to visit as Norwegian nature awakens: plants begin to bloom in countless colours and shapes and a walk, for example through the Trollheimen mountain landscape, becomes a true spectacle of colour and an unforgettable experience!
