Setúbal is characterised by its diverse natural landscape, national parks and opportunities for kayaking, sailing and hiking. The fine sandy beaches and idyllic bays make for a unique bathing experience. The district in the south-west of Portugal borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Whether camping with the family by the sea or walking the dog, the local campsites are well equipped to meet the needs of holidaymakers and welcome them by the sea or in the nature parks.
Thanks to its location on the Atlantic Ocean and its proximity to the lively cosmopolitan city of Lisbon, the district of Setúbal is a popular holiday destination for culture lovers and active holidaymakers alike. Nature lovers can look forward to the protected Parque Natural da Arrábida and the Parque Natural do Sudoeste. With chalk cliffs, mountain ranges and diverse flora and fauna, both invite you to go hiking.
Most of the campsites in the Setúbal district are located close to the varied coastline. However, some have also settled in the interior of the region and are ideal for holidaymakers who want to explore the Serra da Arrábida mountains on their own, for example. Plenty of water sports await by the sea: holidaymakers can dive at Portinho da Arrábida beach or explore the Sado estuary by boat.
Due to the ideal climatic conditions, the district of Setúbal is a popular holiday destination all year round. The months from April to October are considered the best time to visit. Even in the cold season, daytime temperatures do not fall below 14 degrees Celsius. In the high season, i.e. in July and August, guests can expect temperatures of up to 28 degrees Celsius.
In addition, the sun shines for an average of 12 hours a day during the summer months. At around 19 degrees Celsius, the sea promises a welcome cool-down at this time of year. In the winter months, weatherproof clothing is recommended to discover the treasures of Portuguese nature on extensive hikes.
