Sweden is made for camping! The Östergötland region impresses above all with its many lakes inland, but also with its beautiful Baltic Sea coast. Outdoor enthusiasts get their money's worth here at any time of year: endless cycling and hiking trails, popular ski resorts and water sports opportunities on every corner. Those with a passion for culture and history can travel to centuries-old towns and be enchanted by the charm of the quaint alleyways and old buildings.
There are numerous campsites in Östergötland right by the Baltic Sea. The Swedish coastal region is ideal for long hikes, walks through the dunes or extensive cycle tours. Those who prefer to relax will find many quiet spots by the water that are ideal for reading, swimming or watching the sunrise. The archipelago islands off the coast, which were formed during the Ice Age, are also worth seeing.
Camping in Östergötland is not only possible on the Baltic Sea, there are also beautiful campsites inland. The campsites directly on Lake Vättern are particularly noteworthy. From there, excursions to nearby towns such as Linköping, Norrköping or Vadstena are recommended. These have impressive old castles, monasteries and well-preserved old towns.
Travelling to the southern Swedish region is generally possible all year round. However, the summer months from May to August are particularly suitable for camping in Östergötland. Here, summer temperatures reach up to 27 degrees Celsius in July. Swimming in the Baltic Sea or one of the many lakes in the region is also only possible in the summer months.
However, winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy the region's ski resorts during the winter months. But a walk by the sea can also be an experience in winter. Anyone who has ever seen snow on the beach knows what we are talking about.
