In the picturesque canton of Uri, located in the centre of Switzerland, you can camp in the mountains as well as by the lake. In addition to crystal-clear mountain waters, the Mediterranean-style Lake Lucerne attracts water sports enthusiasts and day trippers. There are numerous family-friendly campsites on its shores, which are equally suitable for hiking holidays and swimming holidays.
Even the journey to the campsite in the canton of Uri takes motorhome and caravan drivers through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in Switzerland. The mountain panorama stretches from gentle hills to the highest peaks such as the Surenen Pass.
In addition to lush meadows, dense forests and steep slopes, campers can also set up camp by lakes. On Lake Lucerne, and particularly in the main town of Altdorf, the proximity to Italy is clearly noticeable: the manor houses, palazzi and museums are enchanting. The campsites in Uri are in idyllic locations, making them quiet and relaxed. Many simple pitches are usually located near a small village, a lake or on the mountain pastures.
Despite the fantastic lake scenery in the canton of Uri, the Swiss mountains are a hiking and winter sports paradise. However, due to the heavy snowfall in winter, only a few motorhome and caravan drivers travel here. The mountain roads are then difficult to drive on and most campsites in the canton of Uri remain closed.
The camping season runs from April to September, although the campsites are particularly busy in July and August and holidaymakers should book early during these months. With maximum temperatures of 29 degrees Celsius, campers can look forward to balmy summer evenings in the mountains. In contrast to the crystal-clear and refreshing mountain lakes, Lake Lucerne reaches water temperatures of up to 25 degrees Celsius in summer. The warm water attracts bathing enthusiasts to camp in Uri until September.
