Families with dogs feel at home in the midst of the breathtaking nature of the Ardennes and the High Fens, which characterise the mountainous landscape of French-speaking Wallonia. The highest mountain in Belgium, Botrange, is almost 700 metres high. Camping in Wallonia means carefree living in nature near ancient castles, wild rivers and stalactite caves. Camping with your dog and family is also possible in spacious bungalows on many sites.
Chic wooden chalets with a terrace and balcony or cosy bungalows with a small garden are not uncommon on campsites in Wallonia. This gives camping in this part of Belgium a certain luxurious touch. The landscape is lush green and hilly on the one hand, while sophisticated cities with outstanding architecture - such as Namur, Dinant or Spa - have nothing to hide.
Whether it's a citadel, a church carved into the rock or noble baths with spa gardens: the sights of the region are guaranteed to keep pace with the magnificent natural surroundings. There are also ski resorts in Wallonia, for example around the second-highest mountain, Baraque de Fraiture. After a day on the slopes, skiing enthusiasts can warm up in a heated bungalow or chalet. In summer, the campsites offer well-maintained pools with water slides.
When the forests of the Ardennes and the High Fens are leafy from spring to early autumn is the best time for a holiday in nature in Belgium's most mountainous landscape. The hot summer months are ideal for kayaking on the rivers Semois or Meuse. If the thermometer rises well above 30 degrees Celsius, the cave labyrinth of Hotton or the underground cave lake of Han-sur-Lesse provide welcome cooling.
Castles such as the fortress of the crusader Godefroid de Bouillon in the town of the same name or the fortifications of Dinant provide entertainment on rainy days with their entertaining museums. Winter sports fans will be delighted with the affordable rental accommodation with heating and space for the whole family.
