In addition to football pitches, volleyball courts and table tennis tables, Camping L' Eau Rouge also offers archery as a sporting alternative and employs instructors specifically for this activity. The site's location is also ideal for motorsport fans, as the Spa-Francorchamps racetrack is very close by. However, many guests simply enjoy the seclusion of the seemingly endless forests.
It is often only the rustling of leaves that hikers hear in the Belgian part of the Ardennes. Only on one race weekend in September does the Formula 1 entourage head to the Spa-Francorchamps race track in the middle of the forest. The technical challenge is the Eau Rouge bend in a hollow. L'Eau Rouge is also the name of the best-known campsite near the circuit at Stavelot. It has 131 pitches and 19 rental accommodations. There are plenty of trees throughout the site to provide shade in summer. The rental accommodations are larger caravans in the style of small bungalows with a wooden veranda in front and space for small families. They have wet rooms and built-in kitchen blocks. Those using the sanitary buildings will be delighted with the built-in underfloor heating in spring or autumn. Snacks and refreshments are available in a cosy canteen with a terrace. A small torrent runs through the grounds of Camping L'Eau Rouge. Children and teenagers can also experience adventure on the campsite with archery under expert guidance. Competitions are even organised. Tournaments are also organised on the football pitch and volleyball courts. All the ingredients for a sociable barbecue, where campsite guests can get to know their neighbours, are available in the nearby supermarket.
Parks, villas and an elegant pedestrianised zone make Spa the pearl of the Ardennes, as you can often read on postcards. A small electric funicular railway takes visitors to the secret gardens, the Jardins Secrets, a blooming paradise on a wooded hillside. Just a few kilometres west of Spa is the castle of Theux. The fortress has long, stepped corridors called casemates with loopholes at the end for defence against enemies advancing down the valley. The caves of Hotton are also worth a visit. This is a fascinating cave system with atmospherically illuminated stalactites and stalagmites. Finally, parts of the race track are regular country roads, so red and white curbs rush past the motorhome window on the journey.
