A pool is a real highlight for every child at a campsite - it's a place for splashing, playing and lots of laughter. Sporty adults do a few lengths in the fresh water and cosy campers lie on the edge of the pool to sunbathe. To regenerate, spend some time in the sauna or enjoy a massage. Afterwards, you can relax in warm baths or revitalise your body in the Kneipp pool.

Destinations

In the Allgäu, the 5-star Hopfensee campsite is recommended for camping with a pool. Families and spa and wellness campers feel at home on the site in Hopfen am See - with a magnificent mountain panorama. Children can have fun in the playground or in the two-storey playhouse, which also has a special facility for teenagers. Young and old alike will enjoy the wide range of bathing options: In addition to the lake - with gravel bathing bays, sunbathing lawn and bathing jetty - there is also an indoor pool and a separate dwarf pool for the little ones. The oriental-style wellness centre offers massage programmes, several saunas and Rasul baths. A practice for physical therapies rounds off the facilities at Camping Hopfensee.

In the municipality of Aitrach, Park-Camping Iller is surrounded by tranquil woodland. There is an outdoor pool on the site, which invites you to swim and play. When the children have had enough of the water, the fun continues in the playground. Meanwhile, the adults can relax on the sun loungers under parasols. The Kur- und Vitalcamping site is also popular for camping with a pool in the Allgäu. This is located in the Kneipp spa town of Bad Wörishofen and boasts physical therapies, Kneipp cures and various massages directly at the campsite. For swimming in the pool, you can visit a nearby thermal spa.

Top tips

  • Thermal baths can ideally complement a camping holiday in the Allgäu, either by replacing a missing pool or expanding the existing range of facilities on the campsite. The Swabian Spa Route is particularly recommended for this: This runs from the shores of Lake Constance to Upper Swabia, right into the Allgäu and is made up of nine different resorts.
  • The Bad Wörishofen thermal spa, for example, is part of the Swabian Spa Route and delights visitors with its exotic ambience, sandy beach and palm trees. This oasis of well-being offers healing thermal water, healthy brine, iodine and selenium pools and a sulphur bath that is good for the joints. The facility also boasts a sauna landscape - including a Roman, meditation and herbal sauna.

Activities and excursions

You can really enjoy your time at the campsite with pool in the Allgäu, but there are also lots of exciting activities waiting for holidaymakers outside the site.

A castle in dreamlike nature

The Allgäu is dotted with magnificent waterfalls: The Pöllat Gorge near Schwangau, for example, is highly impressive. In addition to small and large waterfalls, there is also the magnificent Neuschwanstein Castle. The Pöllat waterfall, which plunges around 30 metres into the depths, is enthroned at the Marienbrücke bridge. From this bridge, you have an extraordinary view of the Pöllat Gorge and the romantic castle.

An educational hike

Kaufbeuren is home to the Via Aqua-Naturpfad nature trail, where the history of the town's water supply is presented on information boards. Of course, you can also complete the 7-kilometre tour without taking a break to read. However, if you are interested in Kaufbeuren's past, stop at the various information boards, which focus on the importance of the forest and wetland biotopes, for example.

A destination for sporty holidaymakers

Lake Rottachsee in Oberallgäu is not only popular with swimmers. Sailors, surfers, divers and anglers also enjoy visiting the idyllic reservoir. There is a sailing jetty in Moosbach, for example. There is also a bathing beach with car parks and catering facilities on the shore near Petersthal. There is also a hiking and cycling trail around the lake where you can explore the wonderful landscape.

Fun and excitement in the amusement park

Skyline Park in Rammingen has attractions for young and old, adrenaline junkies and leisurely visitors. The amusement park features rollercoasters, white water slides, children's carousels and the Sky Dragster motorbike coaster. Here you can control the speed yourself. Whether it's Zero Gravity for the brave, Nautic Jets for water lovers or the "Kids Farm" for the little ones: Skyline Park guarantees fun for everyone.

Great events in the Allgäu

A winter sports competition, carnival parade, fishing day, cheese festival and horse riding parade are interesting and varied highlights on a camping holiday in the Allgäu.

March

  • Kempten carnival parade: a colourful parade through the centre of Kempten with many music groups and a party afterwards.

July

  • Memmingen fishing day: At this local festival, participants jump into the water to fish out with large nets.

August

  • Cheese festival in Lindenberg: This culinary festival is all about cheese.

November

  • Leonhardiritt: In Illerbeuren, there is a horse blessing and many of these animals and historic carriages to marvel at.
