A pool is the ideal complement to the natural surroundings at a campsite: adults can relax in the sun by the poolside while children have fun on the slides and in the water channels. Connoisseurs can sit in the bubbling whirlpool or treat themselves to a massage in the extensive wellness centre. Fitness enthusiasts can swim one lap after another in the sports pool.

Swimming fun in the sea, lake, river and pool

Campsites with pools can be found all over Europe and the choice is particularly large. However, the pool is only one part of the camping programme and so when choosing a country, attention is also paid to other features - especially additional options in and around the water. Beach holidaymakers are usually drawn to the south - to Spain, Italy and Greece, for example - as the air and water temperatures there are particularly pleasant for swimming. Here, most campsites are located on the coast, so you can choose between the rushing sea and a clear pool.

In the west and north of Europe, you can also enjoy the water either in a natural body of water - such as the Atlantic, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea - or in an extra pool. In the heart of Europe, for example in Austria, many campsites await campers directly on tranquil lakes surrounded by impressive mountain scenery. Rivers are also popular as an additional bathing option alongside a pool: Such a wish can be realised on the Danube

Destinations for camping with pool

The Villaggio Turistico Internazionale campsite is located in Bibione in Italy, right on the sandy beach. Here, swimming enthusiasts not only spend their time in the sea, but also in the breathtaking pool area. The huge water park offers everything your heart desires: water games and slides for children and massage jets for adults. Sporty campers can play tennis, basketball or volleyball and discover what the water sports centre has to offer.

At Esterel Caravaning in the south of France, camping with a pool is taken to a new level of luxury. There are pitches for caravans with their own hot tub, from which you have a fantastic view of the wooded hills and the fascinating Esterel mountains. To pamper yourself, there is also a great range of massages on site. This renowned 5-star campsite is recommended all year round as it has a large outdoor water park and an indoor swimming pool.

Another campsite with exceptional offers is the Yelloh! Village Le Club Farret: here there is direct access to the sandy beach on the Mediterranean and three Chinese-style pool areas. Babies can play in the paddling pool and children can swim in the aquadome or race down one of the five slides. For fun out of the water, there is a mini club and entertainment, while the adults relax in the spa and wellness area.

Top tips

  • Sufficient sun cream is one of the most important items to take with you on a camping holiday with a pool. It is important to apply sun cream early so that it can be absorbed into the skin before going into the water.
  • Families should not only think about a towel and swimming costume before setting off, but also about diving goggles, beach balls and swimming noodles. These extras will definitely make your camping holiday by the pool something unique.
  • Leisure games, books and puzzles provide fun and variety by the pool and should also be included in the suitcase. These are also good alternatives to a smartphone.
  • If you like cool drinks and food in summer, take a cool bag with you when travelling. It's not just the clear pool water that offers pleasant refreshment.
  • Are there enough shady spots or parasols by the pool at the campsite? Holidaymakers with babies or small children in particular should check this carefully before departure and pack a parasol in the caravan if necessary.
  • In addition to outdoor facilities, some campsites also have indoor pools in their repertoire: these are especially recommended for winter campers. So nothing stands in the way of a year-round camping holiday with a pool.
  • If you are travelling with your dog, you should choose a campsite that offers a pool area as well as a dog beach in the immediate vicinity.

Excursions and activities

At the campsite with pool, there are many other activities in addition to the daily slides and water games: In addition to diving and water sports, there are also numerous attractions around the pool.

Action-packed diving games

Diving is especially fun for children. Equipped with diving goggles, this sport can be fun for the whole family. Heavy objects - such as stones, floppy balls or coins - are collected and thrown into a quiet area of the pool. Now the children can race to dive: Whoever fishes more items out of the water is the winner.

Water aerobics and aqua jogging

Water aerobics and aqua jogging are particularly effective sports that are easy on the joints. Exercise training is carried out in chest-high water and strengthens the cardiovascular system and countless muscles. Due to the water resistance, many exercises are more strenuous than on land, but these sports are suitable for all age groups.

Exploring the natural environment

Families with children in particular are often tempted to hardly leave the pool at a campsite with a great water park. The fascinating surrounding area is sometimes completely forgotten: Water walks through a river or building sandcastles on the beach are just a few of the things that are enjoyed alongside the pool routine. These activities can be an enriching change of pace.
