There are no fewer than 23 fascinating natural areas in the Ortenau district on the southern Upper Rhine, characterised by steep Black Forest slopes and hilly landscapes with orchards and vineyards. The campsites in the Ortenau are ideal starting points for hikes up the Farrenkopf or Brandeckkopf mountains. At many campsites in the Ortenau, four-legged friends are also very welcome when camping with dogs. From Germany's largest adventure park to numerous game reserves, the Ortenau also offers plenty of leisure fun for families.
The holiday region is known, among other things, as a popular wine-growing area. Very close to the well-known holiday resort of Oberkirch, hiking trails lead up to the picturesque vineyards when camping in the Ortenau. A cultural stroll through the small town is also worthwhile because of the picturesque half-timbered buildings in the centre. Culture, nature and an outdoor holiday can also be combined when camping in Ortenau near Durbach. One of the highlights of the region is the ruins of Staufenberg Castle.
The child-friendly campsites in Ortenau are ideal for an eventful family holiday. In summer, camping at Achernsee with its beautiful private beach is popular. Fun and thrills are guaranteed in Rust, where Germany's largest adventure park is located alongside a beautiful campsite.
The Ortenau is often compared to Tuscany due to its marvellous nature and mild climate. As the winters often remain frost-free, guests also like to stay at the campsites in Ortenau, which are open all year round, during the cold season.
With around 1,700 hours of sunshine per year, Ortenau is one of the friendliest regions in Germany. This makes Ortenau not only particularly fertile for wine and fruit growing, but also a popular holiday destination for campers. From April to September, the sun shines for more than six hours a day on average. The warmest months of July and August, with an average temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, are ideal for hours of fun at the region's bathing lakes.
