Swimming and frolicking in the water, skiing, hiking - camping in the German Passau region has a lot to offer for families with children as well as couples. Active holidaymakers get their money's worth here and can really let off steam with the wide range of sports on offer. If you like camping by the lake or in the mountains, you've come to the right place.

Special features of camping in the Passau region

Situated in the border triangle, Passauer Land welcomes motorhome drivers, caravan drivers and all other camping enthusiasts. The region, which stretches across Bavaria and the federal state of Upper Austria, offers numerous activities for young and old thanks to its varied landscapes. The Passau region attracts visitors to the north with the mountain ranges of the Bavarian Forest and to the south with the expanses of the picturesque Rottal valley. In addition to visits to castles and palaces, afternoons by the lake and winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding are of course among the most popular activities when camping in the region. Most of the campsites in Passauer Land are located by the lake or close to a skiing or hiking area - perfect for those with sporting ambitions and campers longing for some peace and quiet.

Best time to visit

The ideal time for a holiday in the region is from April to September. However, depending on your preferred activities, different months are also suitable for travelling. If you want to relax and splash around in the lake with your loved ones while camping in Passauer Land, it is best to travel in June, July or August. Holidaymakers can then expect temperatures of around 25 degrees Celsius and around seven hours of sunshine per day. On the other hand, those who prefer things a little quieter and would like to go on an excursion or two are best advised to travel outside the European summer holidays and in spring or autumn.
