Nature lovers looking for a particularly idyllic spot on Germany's largest lake come to camp in Hagnau on the northern part of Lake Constance in Baden-Württemberg. The picturesque location of the small village community between high vineyards on one side and the crystal-clear lake on the other is ideal for motorhome holidays. With views of the orchards and flower meadows or across the lake, camping in Hagnau is a scenic experience in unspoilt nature.
Between the two well-known Lake Constance towns of Meersburg and Friedrichshafen, there are several campsites around Hagnau that are idyllically integrated into the natural surroundings. The campsites stand out thanks to their direct lakeside location with marvellous views. The short walking distances to the water are ideal for families with children. Swimming fun is also provided by the nearby Hagnau lido.
Visitors who park their caravan or motorhome on the slight hill can explore the green surroundings on long walks from here. Thanks to the good infrastructure in the town centre, campers can get everything they need during their stay. If you want to mingle with the lively hustle and bustle on the shores of Lake Constance, you can cycle to Friedrichshafen or Meersburg; a boat trip to Constance is also possible.
Anyone strolling through the dreamy, flower-decorated alleyways of the village at Hagnau campsite will first discover the parish church of St. Johann Baptist. The church combines the architectural styles of the last eight centuries. Architecture connoisseurs will discover the Gothic choir, the Baroque nave and the Romanesque tower. Worth seeing is the ceiling painting of the choir arch inside from 1980.
If you would like to visit an exhibition, head to the Hagnau Museum in the town hall, where stone tools and Bronze Age artefacts from the local pile-dwelling settlement are on display. Works by artists such as Heinrich Hansjakob, Julius Bissier and Reinhard Sebastian Zimmermann are also on display. The Little Museum, which exhibits dolls and antique toys such as shops and from the years 1830 to 1920, is a particular attraction for families. Events are also held in the old Gwandhaus in Hagnau with a beautiful view over Lake Constance.
An excursion to Wilhelmshöhe, 473 metres above sea level, leads from the village centre directly into the vineyards. Here, visitors can enjoy the view of the gently rocking boats on Lake Constance. In perfect weather, the view even extends as far as the German Zugspitze. The lakeside park below the town hall invites you to play a game of boules. Golfers will find many picturesque green areas to tee off along Lake Constance. Just a few steps east of Hagnau's town centre, bathing enthusiasts can enjoy the water and sun on the idyllic natural beach.
If you want to be active, follow the 45 km of circular hiking trails, which are marked with a grape symbol and pass vineyards, forests and wineries. Other stages can also be travelled by bike along the Lake Constance cycle path, which stretches all the way to Switzerland. Nature lovers can enjoy a fabulous panoramic view of the Lake Constance region during balloon rides, which are offered in Lenzkirch.
Many culinary influences come together in the Lake Constance region. When camping in Hagnau, visitors can enjoy a mixture of Baden-Swabian cuisine with Austrian and Swiss elements. Thanks to the numerous local farms, many foods can be purchased directly from the producer.
Farm shops are a great way to buy fresh ingredients for your meal and holidaymakers can also buy produce from regional farmers at the weekly market. Camping in Hagnau would not be complete without tasting the famous Hagnau wine at one of the many wineries.
Schnapps is available from the 40 small distilleries in the area and fresh fish is sold in the shops in the village centre. It is prepared in the caravan or over the barbecue fire at the campsite in Hagnau. In the restaurant, the chefs serve whitefish, pike dumplings, smoked fillet or even Kretzer. The potatoes are particularly tasty - most of them come from nearby Duchtlingen, where they grow particularly well.
