At the campsites in the Steigerwald in the heart of Franconia, bordered by the Franconian city of Würzburg in the north-west and medieval Nuremberg in the south-east, holidaymakers experience diversity in a particularly intense way. Holidays close to nature at the campsite will delight families with children as well as nature lovers with a thirst for adventure. No two days are the same in the Steigerwald: Natural forest reserves, sunny vineyards and flowering meadows are the perfect setting for exciting hikes and cycle tours.
If you are looking for relaxation close to nature, marvellous views of the countryside and want to be active at the same time, the Steigerwald is the place for you. Numerous campsites are located in the legendary mountains of this low mountain range, providing a perfect starting point for activities in the surrounding area. A well-branched network of hiking and cycling trails leads through green landscapes, past historic castles and palaces as well as romantic towns and villages that are well worth a visit. Geotopes, leisure parks, climbing forests and the treetop path are waiting to be explored by young and old alike. In addition to sporting challenges, thermal spas, swimming pools and lakeshores in the surrounding area offer pure relaxation. The traditional wine and beer festivals in late summer and autumn also offer plenty of culinary delights.
In the heart of Franconia, the climate is warm and humid and mild for Central Europe. Summers are characterised by warm and long hours of sunshine with sufficient rainfall. Winter is relatively mild with frost occurring infrequently. Even in autumn, temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius are often reached. The region also benefits from this climate in terms of the very intensive viticulture practised here. The best time to go camping in the Steigerwald is therefore not limited to the summer months, but starts in spring and slowly comes to an end with the grape harvest in autumn. Especially during the grape harvest, the last rays of late summer sunshine in the off-season create an extraordinary atmosphere under the already colourful leaves.
