Located in the north of the Netherlands, the province of Drenthe offers great excursion options for leisure-oriented holidaymakers. Camping for horse riders and camping with children are particularly popular holiday options in the vast heathlands. The moors and canals of the region also invite you to enjoy an active holiday in the Netherlands. Excellent campsites can be found in Drenthe, for example on the vast Dwingelderveld.

Special features of camping in Drenthe

Vast landscapes await visitors when camping in Drenthe. The heathland in the Drentschen Aa National Park near Assen in particular is ideal for excursions on horseback or by bike. Lush green meadows also await holidaymakers here. A trip to the megalithic tombs in Borger is well worthwhile. Country culture awaits travellers at the Orvelte open-air museum and the Drents Museum in Assen.

On the border with Friesland and in the Bargerveen, the Drenthe moors are among the most beautiful destinations in the province. The region's many rivers have been diverted into a number of canals, which are popular for rowing tours. Drenthe's most famous waterways include the Oranje Canal and the Drentsche Hoofdvaart.

Many excursionists and hiking fans also use the spring days for their trip. In April you can expect 12 degrees Celsius, in May 16 degrees Celsius. In September, the mercury reaches a maximum of 18 degrees Celsius. Those travelling in October can look forward to temperatures of around 15 degrees Celsius.
