The campsites in Palamós are all located close to the sea. This makes them the perfect holiday destination for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. Pets are allowed on many sites, especially during the low season. However, it is advisable to book in advance.

Campers on the Costa Brava can take care of their physical well-being with small grocery shops on the campsites and the frequently offered bread roll service, where freshly baked goods are delivered directly to the awning. The town with shops and restaurants is also close to the campsites. This means that holidaymakers can walk, cycle or drive directly from their rented pitch or mobile home to the town centre.

Journey

Travelling from Germany to Palamós in your own motorhome or caravan can be done via different routes. From the north, visitors often travel via Cologne, Dijon, Lyon and Montpellier. From Hamburg, the distance is around 1,700 kilometres.

Holidaymakers travelling from Frankfurt am Main like to take the A5 motorway to Freiburg im Breisgau to reach their destination via Mulhouse, Beaune, Lyon and Montpellier. The distance is around 1,260 kilometres.

From the south-east of Germany, a fast route leads via Lindau, Zurich and Geneva to Montpellier and Palamós. From Munich, campers are travelling around 1,300 km. Anyone travelling to Spain in their own vehicle will have the pleasure of passing through beautiful landscapes and exciting cities.

Especially with the long distances of over 1,000 kilometres and the charming surroundings, an overnight stopover is definitely a sensible investment. Near Lyon, for example, there are several campsites that are ideal for a stopover.

  • Cemetery: The cross at the entrance is of particular interest. It dates back to 1593 and was attached to the cemetery portal in 1904.
  • Church of Santa Eugenia de Vila-romà: The 18th century sacred building is located in the old town centre.

  • Fishing boats: Even if you prefer to be out and about in the city or on excursions during the day, you should come to the beach around 4 pm. This is when the fishermen slowly return from their work on the high seas. They attract flocks of seagulls and other seabirds with their big catch.
  • Platja del Castell: If you fancy a white sandy beach in an idyllic location, you should head towards Calella de Palafrugell. On the way there is the Platja del Castell beach with the finest white sand, shady pine trees and turquoise-blue water. A kiosk provides guests with refreshments and snacks.

The town of Palamós mainly attracts bathers to the beaches Platja Gran de Palamos and Platja de Saint Antoni. However, the town is also very popular with sporty holidaymakers thanks to its good hiking and mountain biking options.

Cycling

Both the approximately 7.5 km long coastline of Palamós and the hinterland have their appeal for outdoor sports enthusiasts. A wonderful walk, which is also suitable for inexperienced cyclists and families with children, leads from the promenade along the sea to the bay of Cala Estreta. The route leads past caves, beaches and the quaint village of Castell. The easy hiking trail is also a link to an extensive network of several hundred kilometres of trails for trekking holidaymakers and cyclists.

Water sports

Active water lovers will certainly not be bored in Palamós. You can set off on a sailing boat or catamaran tour in the morning. During the day, motorised sports such as water and jet skiing provide entertainment, as do banana boating and windsurfing. Holidaymakers can explore the underwater world of the Costa Blanca by snorkelling and diving.

  • Three Wise Men: An annual event worth seeing is organised in Palamós to commemorate the three saints from the Orient. The wise men arrive by boat in the old harbour and are traditionally greeted with hot chocolate. This is followed by a magnificent procession that ends in the town centre, where the children can shake hands with the holy men.

June

  • Town festival: Every year, the patron saint of Palamós is celebrated on St John's Day. The Festa Major includes various concerts, a funfair, the famous parade with giant figures and a gigantic fireworks display.

July

  • Boat procession: During the festival of the Virgin Carmen, a giant statue of the saint is carried on a procession through the town to a festively decorated boat. Accompanied by many fishing boats, the ship moves in procession across the sea.

December

  • Regatta: At the end of the year, the Palamós Sailing Club organises a popular Christmas regatta in which teams from all over the world take part. The race is part of the Eurolymp sailing circuit.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of the Costa Brava is dominated by its proximity to the sea. Dishes such as arroz negro a la cazuela, black rice with octopus, conger eel and mussels, or the fish stew zarzuela are often on the menu. Delicacies with meat such as pork stuffed with aubergines or stew with black pudding are also traditional dishes. Holidaymakers can sample a delicious selection of small snacks in the quaint tapas bars.

In the fishing port near the old town centre, locals buy the fresh catch of the day directly from the incoming cutters. Holidaymakers can also stock up on first-class seafood and fish there. Every Tuesday and Saturday from 8.00 a.m. there is a weekly market with fresh fruit, vegetables, olive oil and wine.

Best time to visit

Holidaymakers who come to Palamós for camping can look forward to a moderate climate. From May onwards, the thermometer reaches the 20 degree mark. This is when people enjoy the warm weather on bike tours and hikes. From as early as April, there are up to eight hours of sunshine a day, in July even ten. In the summer months, swimmers can look forward to bright blue skies and temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.

The Mediterranean Sea on the Costa Brava has an annual average of around 18 degrees. In August, campers can even splash around in water that is around 23 degrees. Beach fans can make the most of the warm weather well into September. The golden autumn is the perfect time for outdoor enthusiasts. In winter, frost can occur both at night and during the day.
