At the campsites in Kalmar, holidaymakers can spend a relaxing time camping by the Baltic Sea. The small town and the region of the same name south of Stockholm are characterised by a high degree of tranquillity and idyllic Scandinavian forest landscapes. The island of Öland, with its limestone terraces to the west, can be reached quickly via Ölandsbron. Camping by the sea is also possible here.
The area around Kalmar is characterised by seclusion and tranquillity. In the municipality itself, holidaymakers can enjoy the maritime flair and visit one of the traditional fish restaurants in the harbour. One of the most famous sights is the castle with its Renaissance towers, while the offshore island of Öland is also a popular destination for anyone wanting to camp in Kalmar and the surrounding area. Here, chalk cliffs and secluded beaches await visitors. In the hinterland, on the other hand, the boreal forests are a tempting destination for a wild and romantic hiking trip. If you fancy it, you can rent one of the region's typical log cabins with a sauna by one of Sweden's lakes.
Due to Kalmar's comparatively southerly location, it is somewhat warmer here than in Stockholm or the Arctic Circle, for example. If you are on holiday in the region, you can expect average daytime temperatures of around 23 degrees Celsius between June and August. Sometimes higher temperatures are reached at midday. The water is around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius in summer. As most travellers do not come to Kalmar to swim, the period from May to October is ideal for a camping holiday. Then you can do sports in the fresh air at between 13 and 23 degrees Celsius. The spring and autumn days are particularly popular with hikers.
