TCS Camping Orbe
TCS Camping Orbe

From the eastern shore of Lake Geneva to the Alps, the landscape of the canton of Vaud is very varied. Campsites are often located on the lakeshore so that campers and their families have free access to the beaches in summer. Climbing enthusiasts will not be disappointed either as they immerse themselves in the unique nature of the Vaud Riviera and the Lavaux wine region.

Special features of camping in the canton of Vaud

Mostly located on the shores of the unique Lake Geneva, campsites in Vaud offer pitches for tents, motorhomes, camper vans and caravans for families and water sports enthusiasts. Trees provide shade on the parcelled-out sites in summer and small supermarkets have everything you need for self-catering at the foot of the Alps.

Anyone booking a campsite on the Vaud Riviera benefits from excellent bus and train connections to the important cultural cities of Montreux with its Jazz Festival and Lausanne with the Olympic Museum. Excursions into the mountains lead to the foot of the famous Dents du Midi, which are over 3,000 metres high and two kilometres wide. They are an overwhelming sight around a campfire in the evening.

Best time to visit

Lakes generally heat up more than the open sea in summer, so water temperatures of around 22 degrees Celsius are not uncommon in Lake Geneva, which is particularly favourable for families with children. However, the nearby Alps can also trigger sudden thunderstorms. As elsewhere in the Swiss Alps, the weather tends to be very changeable throughout the year and a holiday in a camper, motorhome or caravan is recommended on the campsites in the canton of Vaud.

Campers interested in culture like to come in spring or autumn because of the more moderate temperatures. Excursions on a hundred-year-old paddle steamer with a viewing deck are at their best then. Those travelling in the family-friendly summer should book early due to the popularity of the lakes.
