The campsites in Tuscany are located between the historic cities of Pisa, Siena and Florence. The idyllic villages in the hinterland also offer many cultural sights. On the Tyrrhenian Sea, guests can surf, dive and enjoy the sun while the children play on the beach or take part in entertainment programmes at the well-kept campsites.

Destinations

Campers will find top destinations both in the hilly landscapes inland with vineyards, olive groves and old villages perched on mountains, as well as on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The family-friendly Camping Village Le Esperidi in Marina di Bibbona is located directly in a nature park by the sea, with an extensive sandy beach in front of a belt of dunes. High pine forests and juniper bushes are the typical plants of this Mediterranean vegetation. The popular 4-star campsite in Tuscany has an outdoor fitness park and offers wellness massage treatments.

The campsite's own shopping centre has everything you need for your everyday camping holiday. Fresh, sun-ripened fruit and vegetables from the region are also sold here. A varied leisure programme provides variety and ferry bikes can be hired for excursions directly on site. The well-kept Tripesce campsite is located in the picturesque coastal town of Vada, directly on a sandy beach. Guests will find many leisure activities on offer here, such as bike hire and entertainment for children. Adults can choose from a variety of sports programmes such as basketball and Latin American dance. There are also tennis courts and horse riding facilities close to the campsite.

The Tripesce campsite has its own grocery shop and a cosy bar and restaurant. The large pine forests are within easy reach and offer holidaymakers ideal routes for trekking and cycling tours or horse riding in the countryside. The beach is shallow and ideal for small children, while the sea further out is perfect for surfing, water skiing and sailing.

Top tips

  • Tuscany's hinterland with its green hills is ideal for excursions to the wine-growing regions. This is another Italian tradition worth discovering, far away from the beaches on the coast. The winegrowers regularly organise guided tours through the vineyards, followed by tastings and culinary specialities.
  • The coastal region of Tuscany offers exciting sailing routes and water sports opportunities. The azure blue sea and the offshore islands are a paradise for surfers, divers and beach holidaymakers. The harbours of Elba, Argentario and Capraia are popular destinations for sailors. Holidaymakers can obtain certificates in various water sports at the internationally recognised sailing schools. Guided tours are offered with catamarans, yachts and canoes.

Activities and excursions

Tuscany attracts visitors from all over the world with its beautiful coastline, thermal springs and many historical buildings. Valuable art treasures and impressive sights can be discovered while sightseeing in the cities and towns.

How crooked is the Tower of Pisa?

If you want to find out, visit the famous building in Piazza dei Miracoli, the Square of Miracles, in the city of Pisa. The legendary site is located at the west gate of a medieval city wall. There are several magnificent buildings to marvel at in the central square. One of them is the world's largest baptistery, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, with a cemetery that is well worth seeing. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the area is a highlight of Romanesque and Gothic architecture and an attractive destination for culture lovers and photographers. The surrounding cafés and taverns invite you to linger and savour the culinary delights.

The hot springs of the Cascata del Mulino

Over the centuries, natural pools filled with hot brine have formed near the spa town of Saturnia. Emperor Julius Caesar is said to have once taken a soothing bath in these springs. At 37 degrees Celsius, the sulphurous water is said to have a healing effect. A trip here is particularly worthwhile on weekdays and in the morning or evening when it is not so crowded.

A visit to the home of the original Pecorino cheese

The idyllic town of Pienza, the former birthplace of Pope Pius II, is located in the heart of the Tuscan countryside above the Orcia Valley. The historic centre has even been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is where the world-famous sheep's milk cheese, pecorino, comes from. In addition to the beautiful panoramic views and enchanting flair, a special feature is that all the alleyways smell of pecorino. The historic towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino are located in the neighbourhood, inviting you to make a stopover on your excursion.
