On the coast in the north-east of Spain, the ancient seaside resort of Tossa de Mar invites you to discover diverse landscapes, follow in the fascinating footsteps of history and enjoy the turquoise-blue Mediterranean in one of the most beautiful bays on the Costa Brava. The small town is also lively and offers a colourful kaleidoscope of experiences not only for those seeking relaxation and cultural travellers, but also for active holidaymakers and night owls.
It is not without reason that Tossa de Mar is considered by Spaniards to be the blue paradise of the Costa Brava. The historic fishing town is surrounded by secluded coastal forests, steep cliffs and romantic bays where the crystal-clear Mediterranean gently kisses the fine sandy beach. Only a quarter of an hour's walk lies between Camping Can Martí on the northern edge of Tossa de Mars and the larger of the two town beaches, above which the medieval fortifications with their imposing watchtowers stand proudly - and extremely photogenic. Between its walls, in the cosy alleyways of the old town of Vila Vella, quaint restaurants and small shops tempt you to feast and shop.
If you head north-east from Camping Can Martí, you can enjoy the mountainous landscape of the Massís de Cadiretes. The campsite fills and fulfils beautiful days at home with its pool area, sports, spa and fitness facilities, playground, children's entertainment and entertainment programme.
Just a stone's throw northwest of Tossa de Mar, Camping & Bungalow Turismar offers holiday accommodation in a beautiful natural setting in the middle of the forest on the slopes of Massís de Cadiretes. The campsite with pool, playground, snack bar and sports facilities is a wonderful starting point for mountain bike tours, fishing days, hikes with family and dogs and excursions to the beaches or nearby coastal towns. On the seaside, Camping Pola in the north-east and Camping Cala Llevadó in the south-west offer a campsite by the sea. Tossa de Mar is only a few minutes' drive from both towns; if you prefer to walk, you can be there in around an hour. In addition to children's and sports facilities, rock-framed bathing bays at the campsites tempt you to stay. Nearby, Camping Canyelles near Lloret de Mar is a worthwhile alternative.
Many colourful leisure activities around the blue paradise make camping by the sea in Tossa de Mar a varied and individual holiday experience.
Numerous hiking routes and mountain bike trails criss-cross the picturesque surroundings of Tossa de Mar, so there is something to suit every taste and every age. The coastal hiking trails along the steep cliffs range from leisurely to adventurous and offer great panoramic views as well as the occasional detour to swimming spots. Mountain bikers, mountain hikers and nature lovers will find their happiness in the coastal forests of the Cadiretes massif. Shady, rocky, steep or gentle, the tours make for marvellous days amidst lush Mediterranean flora, which repeatedly opens up distant views over the mountains and the sea.
With the Water World in Lloret de Mar and the Aquadiver in Platja d'Aro, Tossa de Mar has two spectacular water parks in the immediate vicinity. Mini, tube and tyre slides, speed, racing and toboggan slides, water funnels and rafting courses provide plenty of water fun. Even the little ones can let off steam in paddling pools with fountains and water games, while whirlpools and wellness pools offer restful relaxation in between.
Always along the coast, Spain's vibrant metropolis of Barcelona awaits a visit 90 kilometres southwest of Tossa de Mar. The Catalan capital delights visitors with its charming old town districts, large art museums and impressive world heritage sites such as the Sagrada Família church; it also offers the best opportunities for shopping and dining. Although comparatively small with around 100,000 inhabitants, the city of Girona, just 40 kilometres away in the hinterland, also has plenty to discover. Four rivers flow together here, giving the city its unique flair together with the colourful house facades. Magnificent monuments such as the medieval city wall, Santa Maria Cathedral and the Arab Baths from the 12th century are just as impressive as Girona's world-class gastronomy.
