Stretching from Texel in the north to Zeeland in the south, Holland's coastline is more than 450 kilometres long. With its kilometres of wide sandy beaches and impressive dunes, it is an Eldorado for families. Water sports enthusiasts also like to come camping on the beach in Holland to take advantage of the excellent wind conditions for kitesurfing or sailing. The well-developed network of cycling and hiking trails provides plenty of variety.

Destinations

Idyllic windmills, flavoursome cheese and endless sandy beaches - that's what Holland is known for. The beautiful coastline is the perfect place to combine a beach holiday with an active holiday. Water rats, for example, are drawn to the largest town on the island of Noord-Beveland in Zeeland. RCN Camping De Schotsman is a fantastic holiday destination for families. In addition to the resort's own beach, a heated outdoor pool offers swimming fun regardless of the weather. The campsite, which is popular with families, also has a lovely childcare centre and its own surfing and sailing school. There is even a water ski centre on site. A favourite destination for families is the impressive Deltapark Neeltje Jans, which is located on the artificial island of the same name. Highlights include the impressive seal shows and the aqua park with sensational slides.

Guests will also find a unique holiday paradise at Strand Camping Groede directly on the kilometre-long sandy beach of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. On one of the cleanest beaches in the Netherlands, you can splash around on the gently sloping shore. During the main summer season, there is a varied holiday programme for the youngest guests. In addition to craft workshops with shells and other natural materials, there are also fun sports competitions. While the children are lovingly looked after, parents can stroll to the nearby beach pavilions and enjoy the marvellous view of the sea. Active holidaymakers can hire a ladies', children's or men's bike or tandem and cycle to the idyllic fishing village of Breskens, for example. There is a fishing museum worth seeing with a 3D ferry simulator and aquariums.

Top tips

  • Thanks to the practical traffic junction system, active travellers can put together their own tour in Zeeland. In addition to green signs with destination numbers, a practical app for smartphones also provides orientation. Bikes are available for hire at many campsites and holiday resorts. The annual flower parade in Zeeland is legendary.
  • In April, magnificently decorated floats parade from Noordwijk to Haarlem. Along the 40-kilometre route, enthusiastic spectators cheer on the parade. However, the 32-hectare landscape park, where more than seven million daffodils, tulips and other flowers bloom in spring, is also worth a visit away from the flower parade.

Activities and excursions

Discover kilometres of sandy beaches and fascinating cycling and hiking trails through nature while camping on the beach in Holland.

Actively discover nature

Holland is known far beyond its borders as a cycling nation. From the campsite on the beach in Holland, it is not far to the 570 km long North Sea coastal cycle path, which connects popular coastal towns and leads to the charming Wadden Island of Wieringen, among other places. There are also numerous hiking trails along Holland's coast. On Texel, for example, a tour through the Duinen van Texel National Park is well worthwhile. Animal lovers will encounter wild horses and Scottish Highland cattle with shaggy coats along the way. With a bit of luck, you may also spot rare peregrine falcons, oystercatchers and various species of seagull. A mudflat walk with a qualified guide is also worthwhile. In addition to wading birds, seals can be seen sunbathing on the sandbanks.

Bathing holidays for families and water sports

Bathing guests can expect gently sloping coasts and a wide range of water sports options when camping on the beach in Holland. With the most hours of sunshine in Holland, Zeeland is ideal for a carefree family holiday. The beach at Cadzand is particularly popular with guests with children. While building sandcastles here, holidaymakers may be lucky enough to discover millions of years old shark teeth mingling with numerous shells in the sand. Not only the mainland, but also the island of Texel, which can be reached in 20 minutes by car from Den Helder, offers unforgettable holidays by the North Sea. The almost snow-white sandy beach is 30 kilometres long. Those seeking peace and quiet can take long walks here or retreat to a beach pavilion. The unlimited water sports facilities attract kite and wind surfers, catamaran sailors and water skiers.

Events

Holland offers a wide range of exciting events for families all year round.
