That's why more and more wellness campsites in Austria are offering heated baths, saunas or whirlpools after mountain hikes, climbing and mountain bike tours.

In addition to the mountains, Austria offers endless opportunities to let off steam in or on the water. Thanks to its location, Lake Wörthersee is one of the warmest Alpine lakes in Europe. Many families with children romp around in the water here in summer. Sailing, surfing and rowing can be enjoyed on Lake Constance on the border with Switzerland. Diving equipment and SUPs are available for hire. Gliding across the lake on water skis or wakeboards is particularly popular. Lake Neusiedl, located to the east of Vienna on the border with Hungary, attracts water sports beginners. The water is very shallow and not particularly deep. Climb up to come down

The 3,369 metre-high Schwarzenstein in the Zillertal offers a relaxed hike to the summit. The 3,599 m high Similaun is also a good glacier for beginners. There are several three-thousand metre peaks in the Ötztal Alps. They offer challenging glacier experiences. The Hintertux Glacier in Tyrol is not only suitable for hiking, downhill skiing is possible all year round on the icy slopes.

• Salzburg Festival: The world's most important classical music and theatre festival brings Salzburg six weeks of top-class classical music and opera performances. The annual highlight is the performance of Jedermann on the cathedral square.
