Top tips

  • A good heater in your motorhome or caravan is one of the most important things when winter camping in Austria. Before you start travelling in cold temperatures, you need to decide on a suitable option, such as a diesel, gas or fan heater.
  • When camping in winter, you also need to have sufficient reserve fuel in your home on four wheels. Sufficient diesel or gas bottles ensure a safe feeling during the entire journey. It may not be so easy to obtain these abroad.
  • In addition to a suitable heater, a heating mat is also recommended. This warms your feet and creates a particularly cosy atmosphere.
  • In summer, the motorhome or caravan should be parked in a shady spot. In winter, on the other hand, look for places with plenty of sunshine to get as much natural warmth as possible.
  • The windows in the driver's cabin should ideally be covered with insulating mats for the entire duration of your stay. When you are away, it is recommended that the windows in the living area are also covered. This keeps the pleasant warmth in the motorhome or caravan and keeps the windows free of ice.
  • Awnings or awnings are particularly helpful for a clean entrance area: Muddy shoes, wet clothes and dirty sports equipment can be taken off or put away before entering the cosy living area.
  • The Ischgl Ski Opening promises to be particularly fun in November. International superstars are invited to the event every year.
  • A visit to the night ski show in December is also a great experience. This show is organised on skis at Gaislachkogl in Tyrol with great highlights and the opportunity to ski at night.

Exciting activities for young and old

There is so much to experience when winter camping in Austria: from various sports such as skiing and snowboarding to curling, ice skating and cross-country skiing. Children in particular don't even need equipment to have fun in the snow.

Enjoying sports on the ice

Not only children, but also many adults love to glide over the clear ice on ice skates. Especially on a wide frozen lake, this sport is accompanied by a wonderful feeling of freedom and lightness. Those who prefer sturdy shoes on their feet can go curling with friends. You don't need any special previous knowledge for this sport: Fun is guaranteed for beginners and advanced players alike.

The childlike joy of snow

Winter camping is a huge adventure, especially for children: sleeping in the middle of nature and discovering a natural playground right on your doorstep. You can make lots of snow angels in the snow, build great snowmen and have a wild snowball fight with your parents. The little ones can run up the next hill on a toboggan and speed off into the wide open landscape. A true paradise for every camping-loving family.

Events

Romantic Christmas markets, wild parties, ski shows and beautiful choir voices await you in the holiday regions in winter.

November

  • Advent magic: A fantastic Christmas market in St. Anton am Arlberg with wonderful specials.
  • Sölden Party: Party fans can look forward to great DJs with good sound in the Giggijoch Funzone in Sölden.

December

  • Wilten Boys' Choir: The choir organises a concert in St. Anton am Arlberg in the Arlbergsaal.
