A morning walk along the tranquil lake, the dog fishes sticks out of the water, the birds sing, the streams babble and you can see the marvellous mountains that surround you. At lunchtime, you can enjoy a barbecue in the countryside while the dog has fun with one of the caravan neighbour's companions.

Feel at home at these campsites

The dog-friendly Erlebnis Comfort Aufenfeld campsite in the Zillertal leaves nothing to be desired. Not only nature-loving campers, but also their beloved four-legged friends will feel at home in the fantastic landscape - with a swimming lake including a waterfall, forests, wide fields and idyllic mountains. Wellness fans will also get their money's worth here: in addition to an indoor pool, aroma and brine steam bath, there is also a sauna area, infrared cabins and various relaxation and recreation rooms. Animal lovers can go horse riding at the horse boarding centre and sporty campers can visit the climbing hall with extensive bouldering area or the skater course. Kitesurfing is also possible at the bathing lake and winter sports are practised in the region during the cold season. Many families are also drawn to camping with dogs at this site in Tyrol: children love the adventure leisure park with gold panning camp, saloon and western-style fortress. There is also a petting zoo with cute dwarf goats. Erlebnis Comfort Aufenfeld in the Zillertal is definitely a campsite for all ages as well as for pleasure-seekers and action-seekers - and of course for four-legged friends. For cycling and hiking in summer and for lots of exciting winter sports in winter, we recommend the particularly child-friendly Terrassencamping Schloßberg Itter. Families spend a lot of time in the large and varied children's playground and at the heated outdoor pool. The beautiful Itter Castle is located on a hill above the campsite and is ideal for a day trip with your dog. The rest of the countryside with its vast fields and forests is also ideal for long walks with your four-legged friend.

Top tips

  • Travelling with a dog from Germany to Austria is fairly easy, as only a few things are necessary: The animal must have a clearly recognisable tattoo or a microchip implanted and an international pet passport with a valid rabies vaccination. A holiday with a dog in Tyrol is also ideal due to its proximity to Germany - and therefore a short journey.
  • The Gieringer Weiher pond in the Bichlach recreation area is a top destination. Dogs are also allowed to swim in these waters. Or you can take a pedalo trip with your four-legged friend. The surrounding numerous hiking and cycling trails are also perfect for a holiday with your dog.
  • Lake Walchsee in the Kaiser Mountains is also recommended as one of the warmest bathing lakes in Tyrol. Take your dog for a walk along the beautiful promenade or go to the beach on the eastern shore - here the animals can let off steam.

Activities and excursions

Camping is one of the best types of holiday with a dog, as you are surrounded by nature, which is a particularly good environment for four-legged friends. Camping with a dog in Tyrol not only invites you to go on many long hikes or bike tours, but also to go golfing and snowshoeing.

A great natural paradise for hiking

How about a hike in the largest nature reserve in Tyrol? With an area of more than 700 km², the Karwendel Alpine Park is a real dream for nature lovers. Here you can discover the animal and plant worlds of the Alps with your dog. In addition to themed hikes, there are also panoramic and alpine hikes.

E-bike tours in the Kitzbühel Alps

More leisurely campers and 50+ holidaymakers in particular choose an e-bike rather than a classic bike to explore the Kitzbühel Alps region: In the Hohe Salve region in particular, there are several centres where you can hire an e-bike. Technical support when pedalling makes it easier to climb steep roads and paths. Dog owners with a particularly active breed of dog can also look forward to faster progress.

Even when golfing in company

At Seefeld-Wildmoos Golf Club, you can take your dog with you on the 18-hole course. With your beloved four-legged friend by your side, you can hole the balls here - surrounded by the beautiful Tyrolean mountains. In Tyrol, dog-friendly campsites are not the only ones that welcome animals.

Snowshoeing in dreamlike nature

In winter, camping with dogs in Tyrol can also be enjoyed and complemented by great activities, such as snowshoe hikes. In the Kaunergrat Nature Park in the Pitztal region, holidaymakers are invited to enjoy this sport by the wonderfully idyllic landscapes. There are tours for leisurely campers or beginners as well as challenging routes for experienced snowshoe hikers. But no matter which one you choose: Your beloved four-legged friend will definitely be along for the ride.

Events

It's not always easy to find suitable events when you have a dog. Here is a selection of events in Tyrol where four-legged friends are welcome.
