Gently sloping sandy beaches, shady sunbathing areas on the shore, lidos and a huge range of water sports: it's no wonder that Lake Senftenberg in the Lower Lusatian Lake District has become one of the most popular holiday destinations for campers with the whole family in recent years. Bathing holidaymakers spend relaxing hours on the beach in summer. Active holidaymakers can explore the fascinating lake landscape by canoe, kayak or pedalo. Pretty little towns such as Senftenberg also offer exciting insights into the history of the region, which was characterised by open-cast mining for centuries.
Where bucket-wheel excavators used to dig through the earth and extract brown coal in open-cast mines, there is now a real holiday paradise in eastern Germany. There are now almost two dozen artificially created lakes in the Lusatian Lakeland. One of the most beautiful is Lake Senftenberg, which lives up to its reputation as a family lake and is a popular destination for camping holidays, especially for families with children. The campsites on Lake Senftenberg are mainly located close to the shore and are a true paradise for water lovers and bathing holidaymakers. The lake is considered to be one of the cleanest lakes in Brandenburg and has around 7 kilometres of gently sloping sandy beaches - perfect for families with small children. There are sunbathing areas and designated beach sections for naturists and dog owners in between. Canoes, kayaks, boats and SUP boards are available for hire in many places around the lake. There are also two excursion boats for those who prefer a more leisurely pace. Active holidaymakers can explore the surrounding area on the numerous cycling and hiking trails. The 18 km circular trail around Lake Senftenberg, which passes harbours, vantage points and numerous restaurants and playgrounds, is popular.
The facilities at the campsites on Lake Senftenberg are excellent and deliberately family-friendly. In addition to pitches for camping vehicles, rental accommodation, camping cabins and mobile homes are often available. In the summer months, it is advisable to book well in advance, as the Lusatian Lakeland has become a very popular holiday region.
The name says it all: At the beautiful Senftenberger See family park, families will find all the ingredients for a relaxing camping holiday by the lake: spacious pitches by the water, a well-tended bathing beach and a huge leisure programme with a cinema and lots of activities for children. The small town of Senftenberg is just a stone's throw away. The wide range of catering on site is also highly recommended.
The popular Komfortcamping Senftenberger See campsite is a great place to spend a few relaxing days in Lusatia. In addition to a beautiful bathing beach, the wide range of water sports activities, such as windsurfing and sailing courses, is particularly popular. Wellness lovers can indulge in massages and relax in the resort's own sauna. Active holidaymakers can set off directly from the campsite on numerous cycling and hiking trails to explore the beautiful surroundings.
Located slightly away from Lake Senftenberg, the family-friendly Lausitz adventure campsite impresses with its friendly, peaceful atmosphere. Of course, guests don't have to miss out on swimming fun - there is a large outdoor pool right on site. Younger guests can spend exciting hours in the imaginatively designed rock playground. The enchanting surroundings of the Königsbrücker Heide are perfect for long walks and cycle tours.
Lake Senftenberg is not just a great place to relax. There is a lot to discover in the surrounding area! A good starting point is the pretty little town of Senftenberg right on the lake. The former mining town has undergone an astonishing transformation since reunification and now exudes an almost maritime flair. Also worth a visit is the "rose town" of Forst, which is known nationwide for its magnificent historic rose garden. The tranquil village of Guben on the Polish border is also a wonderful destination for water hikers and cyclists. From here you can go on long excursions into the romantic river landscape of the Neisse.
The state-recognised resort of Senftenberg used to be a mining town and today exudes an almost maritime flair - especially at the beautiful town harbour, which invites you to take a leisurely stroll and linger in one of the many nice cafés and restaurants by the water. Also worth seeing is the beautiful market square with its pretty new town hall building, the magnificent facades of the five-storey Adlerapotheke pharmacy and the listed Wendish church. The castle park with its fully preserved medieval fortress is also a wonderful place for a stroll.
With its artistically designed historic rose garden, Forst is known as the "Rose City on the Neisse". Every year, tens of thousands of rose bushes of 1,000 different varieties bloom in the beautiful park - a marvellous sight, especially in summer. In the 18th century, an important cloth and linen factory was established in Forst, which for a long time earned the town the name "German Manchester". Today, visitors can discover the town's industrial past in Brandenburg's only textile museum. Forst is also a worthwhile destination for cyclists: the two beautiful routes "Fürst-Pückler-Weg" and "Oder-Neiße-Radweg" lead directly past the town
Guben is one of the oldest towns in Lower Lusatia and, like Forst, was an important centre of the textile industry. Today, the town on the River Neisse, together with its twin town of Gubin, forms a bridge to neighbouring Poland. Visitors to the "twin city" can therefore get to know two countries in one city. In addition to the many magnificent villas from the heyday of the hat and cloth makers, the green city centre and the many beautiful footpaths along the river are particularly impressive. Guben is also a great starting point for cycle tours and canoe trips in the romantic river landscape of the Neisse.
