The Tegernsee region has a lot to offer holidaymakers. The first port of call for campers from the north is usually the small town of Gmund. From here, the region is ideal for exploring, for example on a boat trip southwards. The town of Tegernsee, which is considered the cultural centre of the region, is also very popular. The excellent brewery in the former Tegernsee monastery is particularly well known here. Schliersee , around 15 kilometres away, is another wonderful excursion destination for holidaymakers and is a real insider tip, especially among locals.
The municipality of Gmund is considered the gateway to Lake Tegernsee and is the first port of call for many visitors to the region. The small town is located on the northern shore of Lake Tegernsee and is a popular starting point for a boat trip southwards. But the town itself also has a lot to offer. The parish church and the Maria-Hilf chapel with its baroque architecture are among the most beautiful sights on Lake Tegernsee. Europe's oldest paper machine from 1883 is still in operation in the handmade paper factory. From the hills behind Gmund, visitors can enjoy a marvellous view over the Tegernsee valley.
Just 5 kilometres to the south is the village of Tegernsee with the monastery of the same name. The town is considered the cultural centre of the region and is best known for the Benedictine monastery founded in 1260, which later became the summer residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty. The adjoining Herzöglichen Bräustüberl brewery is known far beyond the region and is a real highlight for connoisseurs. There are also numerous excellent gastronomic and cultural offerings and various museums such as the Tegernsee Valley Museum. Families can relax at the beach campsite, play minigolf and enjoy a wide range of wellness offers. On the opposite shore of the lake, the spa town of Bad Wiessee offers similarly good conditions for a relaxing holiday.
