Zealand is one of the most important islands in Denmark. It is home to important cities such as the metropolis of Copenhagen and Roskilde with its historic centre. On the coast, you can spend your holiday at one of the campsites on Zealand's Öresund coast. The north shore and Storebælt are also recommended destinations for camping by the sea.

Special features of camping in Zealand

The island of Zealand lies far to the east of Denmark and forms part of the border with Sweden. Here you will find places worth visiting, such as the capital Copenhagen with the cultural assets of the monarchy. In the north of the island, Kronborg Castle near Elsinore, where Shakespeare's Hamlet is set, is well worth a visit. In Roskilde, the cathedral with the royal tombs is a highlight.

Those planning a nature-loving leisure holiday can opt for one of the campsites along the coast. Picturesque beaches await travellers on the Kattegat and the Öresund. The cliffs of Stevns tempt you to go hiking. In the Kongernes Nordsjælland National Park, rustic forests await a visit.

Best time to visit

For leisure-oriented holidaymakers, the period from around May to October is ideal. The months of July and August are particularly popular for exploring Zealand Camping. During these months, temperatures are above 20 degrees Celsius and the Baltic Sea is around 18 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for swimming.

If you fancy water sports such as sailing, kitesurfing and surfing, you can also visit in May and June as well as in September and October. This period is also ideal for extensive excursions on foot, by bike or on horseback. Spring and autumn are characterised by maximum temperatures of between 12 and 18 degrees Celsius.
