Grand Est is a region in the north-east of France that includes the Ardennes, the Moselle region, Alsace and the Vosges mountains. Nature lovers and leisure-oriented holidaymakers camping with children can look forward to a wealth of activities - from hiking in the Forêt d'Orient to climbing tours near Colmar and extensive cycle tours along the banks of the Rhine. Many nature parks are suitable for camping for horse riders.

Special features of camping in Grand Est

The Alsace and Lorraine regions, as part of the French Grand Est, offer plenty of variety in terms of landscape. Campsites in the heart of nature guarantee a relaxing holiday, where you can, for example, wander through the forests near Troyes. In the north of the province, the Ardennes with their oak forests and shallow hills guarantee pure adventure. The Vosges mountains near the border with Germany are another highlight.

Culture lovers will get their money's worth with a visit to Strasbourg. Here, the cathedral is one of the major sights in Grand Est. Smaller towns such as Colmar and Hagenau with their half-timbered architecture are also well worth a visit. In Reims, you can admire the ancient champagne cellars and the cathedral with its ornate stained glass windows.

Best time to travel

It is slightly warmer in the Grand-Est compared to Germany. In July and August, temperatures reach an average daily maximum of up to 25 degrees Celsius. Occasionally, the values even rise well above this. May and June are also popular with holidaymakers, with temperatures between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius. In these months, the likelihood of rain is also somewhat lower than in August, for example.

Those travelling in autumn can look forward to maximum temperatures of 15 to 21 degrees Celsius. From November to March, it is significantly cooler with temperatures between 1 and 12 degrees Celsius. Most campsites in the Grand-Est are open from March to October.
