There is a wide range of possibilities - whether on land or water, every generation is in its element in and around the campsites in Sanguinet. Swimming fun on one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe and on the marvellous sandy beaches of the Atlantic are at the top of the list. While some find their favourite spot in the textile area, nudists can enjoy the peace and quiet in designated areas. The enchanting nature parks provide variety, with or without dogs.
Pedal boating on one of the country's largest lakes today, splashing around on the family-friendly Atlantic beach tomorrow and exploring the countryside on foot the day after tomorrow - camping in Sanguinet is a mixture of relaxation, fun and discovery. Most of the campsites open their doors from March and welcome their guests until September, sometimes October.
The majority of the pitches are located on the 55 km² Étang de Cazaux et de Sanguinet lake, in the immediate vicinity of the water in a wooded idyll or within walking distance of the sea. The basic facilities of the camping parks include sanitary facilities, connections for electricity, hot water and outdoor barbecue areas. A swimming pool, playgrounds, bars and a seasonal entertainment programme are standard on most sites.
The distance from Bremen, Leipzig, Munich, Frankfurt am Main or Cologne to Sanguinet is 1,422 km, 1,613 km, 1,380 km, 1,227 km and 1,139 km respectively. For many motorists, the standard journey is via Aachen, Liège, Paris and Poitiers. To make the journey as pleasant as possible, many campers break their journey at Paris. Whether it's an idyllic stop along the banks of the Seine, in the heart of the French capital or a romantic stop at Versailles is up to you. In any case, the remaining 646 kilometres can be tackled in a more relaxed manner. If you are at all flexible in terms of time, avoid the urban centres during the morning and evening rush hour.
Depending on where you start, a route via Zurich, Geneva and Lyon may well be an alternative. Lyon, for example, is recommended as a stage destination. France's second largest city lies 612 kilometres east of the destination. But whether you travel via Switzerland or through Belgium, you will have to pay a toll to use the motorway in France at the latest. There are route-dependent payment stations that only accept cash or credit cards. In Switzerland there is a general vignette obligation, in Belgium this only applies to vehicles with a total weight of more than 3.5 tonnes.
Where the French themselves like to go on holiday, it must be beautiful and there must be something to discover.
Relax on the shores of the lake or unwind on the fine sandy beaches - sweet idleness is a top priority when organising your day in Sanguinet. Those looking for more action can visit the local sailing school or go surfing. Those who want to pursue their sporting passion on land, on the other hand, can hike or cycle through the neighbouring nature park.
A trip to Arcachon is worthwhile on a day without swimming or sport. The seaside resort fascinates visitors with the travelling dune Dune du Pilat and the Arcades art gallery. Visitors can also try their luck at the local casino. A few kilometres further on is the 52-metre-high lighthouse at Cap Ferret, whose viewing platform can be climbed after 258 steps.
The area around the campsites in Sanguinet is rather tranquil, with several restaurants and bars inviting you to take a break. Culinary delights await fish lovers, such as oysters from the local farm. Culture lovers should not miss the annual regional music festival in July.
Excellent cuisine and exclusive wines - the Sanguinet region near Bordeaux is a true gourmet's paradise. While the French get by with a café au lait and a croissant or a slice of baguette for breakfast, dinner is all the more sumptuous. Whatever is freshly caught from the sea is served: Oysters, seaweed, mussels, eel and langoustine. These are accompanied by meat dishes with duck, goose or beef.
The local porcini mushrooms, which are served as a garnish with entrecôte, are incomparable in their flavour. Or how about black truffles? For dinner, order a fine wine from local winegrowers or drink the water from France's natural springs. If, on the other hand, you only want a snack, we recommend the croque monsieur gratinated cheese and ham toast.
Nature is beautiful in spring, when the plants unfurl and the scent of flowers fills the air. Hikers and cyclists in particular appreciate this beautiful time of year and go on excursions through the wine-growing regions and into the countryside. By the beginning of May at the latest, the thermometer climbs above the 20°C mark and peaks at 27°C and above in August. Ideal conditions for sunbathing on the shores of the Étang de Cazaux et de Sanguinet lake or on the nearby Atlantic beaches. Others pursue their passion for water sports such as surfing or sailing. The average water temperature in midsummer is 18°C. In autumn, the grape harvest is very popular and is celebrated in many places with numerous events.
