When camping in the Saarland, visitors can look forward to beautiful forest and river landscapes, historic towns and exciting sights. Located in south-west Germany on the French border, the smallest federal state in Germany is perfect for hikes and excursions with the whole family. The site is excellently equipped, has a restaurant and a camping shop and also offers a sauna in the sanitary building. This small and cosy campsite offers unparcelled pitches for caravans and tents in a picturesque setting with lots of trees and a quiet location. If you want something a little more luxurious, you can also stay in the chic glamping tents, and several holiday homes in Finnish country house style are also available to rent. And if you want something really unusual, you can spend the night in one of the wine barrels.
If you are only travelling with a tent, you should make a note of the forest campsite at Kapellenwiese in Oberthal-Gronig. The facilities here are of course very basic, but it is in a beautiful location in the forest. There are sanitary facilities and an outdoor washing area on the site. There is also a barbecue area and several fire pits.
This beautiful campsite is located in the heart of the town of Saarlouis, surrounded by greenery. The pitches for caravans and motorhomes are located in the meadow, with trees and hedges providing the necessary privacy and shade in summer. The site is equipped with a waste disposal station, hot showers, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwashing room. If you want to aim high, you should visit the Saar Adventure Park. The leisure park in the forest offers a high ropes course and a climbing labyrinth for children and is the perfect place for an adventure with the whole family.
Völklingen is home to a very special sight: the Völklingen Ironworks of the same name. The world's only completely preserved ironworks from the heyday of industrialisation offers exciting insights into the past and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.
