In the heart of Schleswig-Holstein in the north of Germany, the climatic health resort of Plön attracts visitors to the idyllic lake landscape of Holstein Switzerland. Camping in Plön: this means a stay with extensive bathing days on the beach of Lake Plön, lake tours, nature holidays and leisure enjoyment. A short cycle or car journey is all it takes to reach the Baltic Sea coast. The towns of Neustadt, Grömitz, Preetz and Dahme as well as the city of Kiel are popular excursion destinations.
Plön lies in the middle of a picturesque lake landscape, the centrepiece of which is the Großer Plöner See. Here, campers can spend the night on the lakeshore and enjoy the fresh air. After getting out of their tent, caravan or motorhome with their morning coffee, holidaymakers can enjoy the fantastic view of the lake and the natural landscape. Plön, with its beautiful old town and castle of the same name, is surrounded by several lakes and is an excellent holiday destination for walks, bike tours and hikes.

Naturcamping Spitzenort in Plön on a headland right next to the lake exudes a very special charm. The pleasant coolness of the water can be felt on all pitches and thanks to its facilities, every traveller with a caravan, motorhome or tent will find a place here. In addition to its idyllic location, the campsite has a meadow for dogs as well as a playground and children's entertainment for younger campers.
The Augstfelde camping park in Bösdorf am Vierersee is extremely spacious. The 23-hectare park-like site offers numerous pitches close to the lake. The 600 metre long beach is complemented by a three hectare sunbathing and play area. The Augstfelde camping park also scores highly with its versatile sanitary facilities and a wide range of services, including bicycle hire. If you are travelling without your own motorhome, you can hire one of the caravans.
Naturcamping am Stocksee impresses its guests with its particularly idyllic location. The natural parcelling out of the pitches with a view of the lake is particularly appreciated by campers. With two small bathing areas, nothing stands in the way of enjoyment. The Stockseehof estate to the north of the campsite invites you to enjoy a variety of events on the lake several times a year. Travellers can use Plön's canoe hire service on the promenade and explore the waters by rowing. Those who prefer to travel faster should opt for a motorboat. Lake Plön is ideal for fishing. Casting a rod here is promising and possible for everyone with a guest fishing licence.
There is a sailing school on Plön's Prinzeninsel offering a wide range of activities. Here, holidaymakers can learn the basics of sailing and even obtain a certificate if they wish. If you already have experience, it is possible to hire boats. In summer, visitors can go kitesurfing and surfing.

Unlike in the rest of Schleswig-Holstein, the fish in Plön comes from inland waters. Tasty carp, trout and eel are fished primarily from Lake Plön. They are later processed into smoked fish in a complex process by regional businesses. This can be eaten on its own or seared. It is accompanied by typical Holstein vegetables such as kale, turnip puree and potatoes.
Herring is also brought to the town from the Baltic Sea and crabs from the North Sea. Fish rolls with pickled matjes are a particular favourite with the locals. Asparagus also thrives in the fields of Holstein Switzerland. During the harvest season, you can order this speciality with homemade hollandaise sauce and wine in almost every restaurant.
The camping season in Plön usually starts at the end of May. Temperatures then reach a maximum of 16°C during the day. In June, July and August, temperatures rise to up to 20°C, the ideal conditions for taking a dip in the cool waters of one of the lakes.
Even in September, the conditions are still ideal at around 17°C. Many water sports enthusiasts also travel here in April and October. Then you can expect temperatures between 3°C and 12°C. In winter, the weather in Plön is only suitable for camping to a limited extent and most campsites are closed during this period.
