In Schleswig-Holstein, you can take long walks along the sandy beach, inhale the fresh sea breeze and let your dog romp in the waves. Afterwards, the beloved four-legged friend is sprinkled with water in the dog shower at the campsite before relaxing in the caravan with his master and mistress. Hiking and cycling tours are also on the programme. In the evening, you can sit comfortably in front of your mobile home and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.
Holidays by the Baltic Sea, North Sea or inland? When camping with your dog in Schleswig-Holstein, either option is possible. In the east, the region impresses with fantastic cliffs and wide white beaches. The well-known and popular island of Fehmarn is also located here, with numerous spa and sports facilities, diverse beaches and interesting sights such as the Peter Wiepert Home Museum and St Nicholas Church. On Fehmarn, you should take a closer look at Camping Miramar. The site has a large sandy beach with a separate section for nudists. Dogs are welcome at Camping Miramar. Here, the four-legged friends can enjoy their own dog shower. The sports programme ranges from golf and beach volleyball to pony riding.
Another dog-friendly campsite in Schleswig-Holstein is the 4-star Comfort-Camp Eider in Tönning near the North Sea. Nature lovers will be delighted with the location, as the site is right next to the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park and at the mouth of the River Eider. The Eider barrage and the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are well worth seeing in this area. The interior of Schleswig-Holstein is characterised by picturesque lakes, marshes and moors, beautiful hilly landscapes and fresh forests. Naturcamping Spitzenort welcomes its guests right by the Großer Plöner See, where swimming, fishing, sailing, canoeing, surfing and boating are on the agenda. You can hire a bike from the campsite's own bike hire centre to enjoy a tour along the lake with your dog.
Excursions are popular on camping holidays with dogs: Cycling tours and hikes are at the top of the list. But the extraordinary Wadden Sea and interesting museums can also be explored with your beloved four-legged friend.
Fehmarn has a particularly large number of hiking trails throughout the island, but the Via Scandinavica, a section of the German Way of St James, is highly recommended. This runs from the north in Puttgarden, via the village of Burgstaaken to the south coast to Fehmarnsund. The route is around 20 kilometres long and on cooler days you can visit the Fehmarn Butterfly Park. Here you can marvel at over 50 different species surrounded by tropical plants. Koi carp, pond turtles, zebra finches, dwarf quails and an iguana also live here. The dog can sniff into this exotic world on a lead. Dogs can also be part of the fun at the Galileo World of Knowledge on Fehmarn. There are three different museums with the themes of natural history, technology and overseas. Mammoth fossils and stone tools from the Ice Age, optical illusions and cultural handicrafts offer visitors a rich selection.
Mudflat hiking is something very special, as you walk on the North Sea seabed and can even reach islands on foot at low tide. Such an excursion is permitted with a dog on a lead, but because the ground conditions are not always ideal for four-legged friends, professional guides should be called in. The district of Friedrichskoog-Spitze and the municipality of Nordermeldorf even organise their own guided tours of the mudflats with dogs. But the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park has even more to offer: Vast salt marshes, marvellous beaches, amazing plants and diverse animals can also be found here. Various birds, different species of fish and crustaceans and even seals can be observed in the idyllic national park: a true paradise for dogs and humans.
Many events enrich your camping holiday in Schleswig-Holstein: at sporting events, festivals and outdoor markets, you can also take your four-legged companion with you.
