  • Shopping centre: At the roundabout of Via degli Oliveti and Via Enrico Mattei there is a large shopping centre with good parking facilities.   • Carnival: The event takes place in the town of Viarragio, around 28 kilometres away. Every year, thousands of visitors come to marvel at the colourful spectacle of the parade. Politicians and stars from film and television are caricatured in the form of papier-mâché figures. Numerous balls and parties are also held during the carnival season.

  • Fireworks: The fireworks, which are traditionally set off over the sea in front of Marina di Massa on mild midsummer nights, are well worth seeing. The famous pier offers a particularly beautiful view.
  • Lizzatura: The traditional Lizzatura takes place every year in the old marble quarries around Marina di Massa. This is an elaborate staging of how the valuable raw material was once extracted in the form of slabs and then transported for further processing.

  • Christmas market: In Marina di Carrara, the town centre is enveloped in a fairytale atmosphere with stalls selling food and drinks. Even Father Christmas and his elves have their own house where they make their toys. Young and old skate on the ice rink. Concerts and a varied entertainment programme for children take place at the same time.

Gastronomy

If you decide to spend your holiday in Marina di Massa, you will experience true culinary delights. Tuscan cuisine is characterised by the use of high-quality foods such as freshly caught fish, mushrooms, chestnuts, wine and olive oil. Overall, the dishes are rustic and simple, making them easy to recreate.

Typical regional dishes include spelt soup with beans and vegetables, tagliatelle with game or hare ragout, salad made from farmhouse bread, tomatoes, cucumber and onions or a creamy fish soup. Of course, the restaurants also serve pizza and pasta. A particular speciality is the Florentine roast pork with garlic and rosemary. The countless wineries supply fine wines such as Chianti to accompany your meal.

However, the region lies in a transition zone to the cooler northern weather. This is why there can be more rainfall on an average of nine days a month, particularly in the transitional period between March and May and October and November.
