Domburg is the oldest seaside resort in Zeeland and a popular destination for camping by the sea. The holiday resort combines a beautiful beach with a pretty historic old town and numerous campsites by the sea and in the dunes. For beach fans and families with children, Domburg is a real paradise in summer. The neighbouring nature reserves and the vast dune landscapes offer active holidaymakers numerous opportunities for beautiful hikes, beach walks and long bike rides.
Domburg is located on the Walcheren peninsula in the west of the Dutch province of Zeeland and has long been a popular seaside resort. Domburg's beach in particular is famous beyond the region: Thanks to its gently sloping waters, excellent water quality and pretty beach huts, it is a favourite destination for families in summer. Surfing is also possible on the beach, and there are a number of beautiful campsites dotted around the centre of Domburg, nestled picturesquely in the vast dune landscapes. In addition to regular pitches for caravans and motorhomes, some of the holiday parks also offer holiday homes and other rental accommodation. Dogs are generally permitted on the pitches, although they are not allowed on the beach in the peak summer season. Bicycles can be hired on many pitches - perfect for exploring the picturesque surroundings, for example in the neighbouring nature reserve de Manteling or on a cycle tour to the neighbouring town of Oostkapelle. Another popular activity is horse riding - either on the beach or in the idyllic hinterland. Zeeland is the region with the most hours of sunshine in the Netherlands and is correspondingly popular - so it is advisable to make a reservation during the camping season.
The campsites in Domburg are perfect for families with children, beach holidaymakers and those seeking relaxation. Facilities include sports facilities, clean sanitary facilities and many leisure activities including children's entertainment. Our users' favourite campsites are:
The Roompot Kampeerresort is located almost directly in the centre of Domburg and is particularly popular with families with children. The extensive leisure facilities include a swimming pool, playground, mini golf course and children's entertainment. The beach is just a few minutes' walk away. There is also an extensive wellness centre.
Ardoer Camping Westhove is located between Domburg and Oostkapelle and is another great family campsite. Highlights include the large indoor play area, the indoor swimming pool and the many children's playgrounds. The site is also a good starting point for cycle tours to Middelburg. The Finnish sauna is a great place to relax afterwards.
The popular camping park Ons Buiten is located right on the outskirts of Oostkapelle in beautiful park-like surroundings. Both the beach and the town centre are just a few minutes away. Beach volleyball and football pitches invite you to get active. There is a water playground for children and the indoor swimming pool is also very popular.
The Walcheren peninsula offers numerous charming villages, all of which are easily accessible from Domburg, for example by bike. Just like Domburg, the neighbouring town of Oostkapelle is a popular destination for beach holidaymakers and has some of the most beautiful beaches on the Dutch North Sea coast. Middelburg is a great destination for a day trip. The capital of Zeeland is one of the cultural centres of the region and is reminiscent of a smaller version of Amsterdam. The seaside resort of Vlissingen is very popular with families. In addition to beautiful beaches, there are also numerous exciting leisure attractions for children and a seawater aquarium worth seeing.
Oostkapelle is the neighbouring village of Domburg and has some of the most beautiful North Sea beaches in Zeeland. The village is a popular destination for beach holidaymakers and families, especially in the summer months, who relax by the sea and stroll along the lively beach promenade. The neighbouring nature reserves of De Manteling and Oranjezon are perfect for walking and cycling. The old Westhove Castle from the 12th century, which has since been converted into a hotel, is also worth a visit.
With its central location in Walcheren, the traditional town of Middelburg is the capital of Zeeland and well worth a visit. The town has a rich past dating back to the time of the East India Company and is full of magnificent historical buildings and monuments. It is particularly nice to stroll along the canals and watch the colourful hustle and bustle from one of the many cosy cafés. Buildings worth seeing include the Abbey of Our Lady, founded in 1100, with its 90 m high tower, the "Lange Jan" and the magnificent late Gothic town hall in the city centre.
The lively seaside resort of Vlissingen is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Zeeland. The reason for this is the magnificent 2 km long beach promenade, which is one of the longest in the Netherlands, and the great beaches in the immediate vicinity of the town centre. If you want to combine beach and city life, this is the place for you. A popular destination for families with children is the amusement park "Het Arsenaal" - a mixture of pirate world and seawater aquarium. Here you can watch and even stroke real sharks and rays. Another popular attraction is the Iguana reptile zoo, where visitors can admire over 500 different species of reptiles and amphibians.
For those who haven't had enough beach and sea, a trip to the neighbouring province of Friesland a little further north is a good idea. Friesland is primarily known as a dream destination for water sports enthusiasts. Thanks to the many lakes and canals, the region is also a real dream destination for campers. Most of the campsites are located directly on the water. If you have a little time on your hands, you can discover some of the most charming places in the north-west of the Netherlands on a longer road trip. A real dream tour that offers plenty of new territory
