A sunny, feel-good holiday awaits visitors at one of the 4-star campsites on the Croatian peninsula of Istria. The campsites between Trieste and Rijeka are located close to the rustic rocky coast and beaches. They are nestled between the azure blue sea of Kvarner Bay and romantic fishing villages with a Mediterranean atmosphere. Whether sightseeing, hiking or water sports, Istria is a holiday experience for the whole family, for solo travellers, group trips and for camping with your dog.

Top tips

  • 4-star campsite in Istria by the sea: enjoy the magnificent view of the Adriatic Sea and its islands from almost every pitch thanks to the terraced layout of the campsite in Vranjča. In addition to the unforgettable views and sunsets, there are hiking trails through pine forests and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Trogir with its historic centre and prehistoric sites.
  • Camping with a luxury guarantee: Umag's 4-star campsites offer a very luxurious stay with extensive water landscapes and even mobile homes with their own pool. But the region also offers another speciality. The town of Brtonigla, only around eleven kilometres away, is known for its outstanding wines and tasty olive oil, which means that culinary highlights are also guaranteed. We particularly recommend visiting in spring and autumn to sample the wines.

Activities and excursions

Whether water sports or sightseeing: if you spend your holiday at Istria's campsites, you can look forward to historical cultural treasures such as the old town of Pula, as well as sailing trips under the Croatian sun.

Staying in the picturesque fishing village of Funtana

The idyllic fishing village of Funtana on the rugged coast of southern Istria is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. In addition to the harbour atmosphere and the beautiful beaches, Funtana attracts visitors for a swim and a visit to the freshwater springs. It is said to have the best ice cream in Istria and the best fish. There are cosy taverns around the town centre serving culinary delights and Croatian specialities. But don't be surprised if you hear prehistoric noises, because the town's dinosaur park offers life-size dinosaurs and lots of family fun.

Sports above and below the water's surface in Istria

Istria is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Divers and snorkellers frolic in the crystal-clear water. On the surface of the water, sailing boats float in the sun and in some places courses are offered for beginners and advanced sailors. Experienced boaters can hire boats from the jetties in the coastal region and can take their family and dog along for the trip. An experience for the whole family: watch the red sun sinking into the sea on a kayak trip in Poreč, exploring bays and islands away from the heat of the day.

Sightseeing in Pula - the oldest city in Istria

Historic buildings from Roman times characterise this beautiful coastal town. The charming old town centre with its cafés and bars invites you to stroll and enjoy. Small boutiques and cosy restaurants give this town its special flair. The Pula amphitheatre, a top attraction in the south of Croatia, is impressive. But nature is not neglected either: the rare monk seals are welcome guests on the beaches of the Verudela district.

Events

Lively events and happenings inspire visitors at the 4-star campsite in Istria. From rocking biker gatherings to cultural evenings and local markets: There is something going on everywhere in the region and many places are buzzing with life.

June

  • Staaari Rockeri: Fast bikes, rock concerts on the beach and unforgettable experiences - the big motorbike get-together in Umag at Stella Maris campsite also offers joyrides with panoramic views and visits to the region's most renowned wineries.

July - August

  • Tomato Day: If you want to find out what you can conjure up from tomatoes, you should experience the start of the tomato harvest in Umag at the end of July/beginning of August. Also on the programme: the tomato pageant with the best and largest tomato varieties.

August

  • Evening of street performers: every year, jugglers, fire-eaters and acrobats enchant visitors to the large square and the entire old town centre of Novigrad. This is where street theatre meets circus art and admission is free.
