With a 4-star campsite in Sardinia, holidaymakers can expect a relaxing holiday on the popular Mediterranean island. The campsites here are mostly located on the coast and most have direct access to the sea. Water sports are of course one of the most popular leisure activities for campers - whether families, couples or solo travellers. But the island also offers interesting hiking routes: romantic mountain and fishing villages invite you to go sightseeing.

Top tips

  • At a 4-star campsite by the sea in Sardinia, the Italian way of life and Mediterranean cuisine naturally play a role. A detour to the island's excellent wine-growing regions is therefore well worthwhile. The exquisite Tenute Olbios winery near Olbia, for example, is ideal for a tasting. Guests can learn more about the secrets of excellent wine production during a personalised tour. A lunch in an elegant rural atmosphere rounds off the visit.
  • Another highlight in Sardinia is the village of Iglesias with the Iglesiente mountain range. This region, which is still relatively undeveloped for holidaymakers, offers excellent conditions and plenty of challenges for climbers - whether on the cliffs on the coast or on the rocks in the hinterland.
  • A fascinating landscape with steep cliffs can be seen near the town of Alghero. Capo Caccia, a headland, juts out into the roaring sea. Beneath this headland are 15 caves and a huge stalactite cave, the Grotte di Nettuno, which is well worth seeing.

Activities and excursions

Camping in Sardinia offers travellers many interesting sights and leisure activities. Historical buildings bear witness to the country's culture, and there are real natural treasures to discover while diving or hiking.

Romantic sightseeing in the alleyways of Cagliari

When camping in Sardinia, many holidaymakers pay a visit to the island's capital. One of the highlights is the old town centre, Castello, which is located on a hilltop and offers sweeping views over the Gulf of Cagliari. The picturesque neighbourhood is surrounded by medieval walls. Many small alleyways and cosy taverns invite you to linger. One of Cagliari's architectural highlights is the 13th century Roman Catholic cathedral in Piazza Palazzo.

Adventurous horse riding and trail riding in the Sardinian sun

Trail rides through the mountains and beach tours on horseback are among the most popular leisure activities. The local riding stables provide visitors with the right equipment for the ride. With a local tour guide, you can then head out into the Sardinian countryside. In addition to a riding helmet, it is advisable to wear long trousers to protect your legs when riding out.

Caribbean flair around the Asinara National Park

The turquoise-blue bays in the area of the offshore island of Asinara are ideal for snorkelling and diving. La Pelosa is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Sardinia. It is located in Stintino, a Sardinian municipality with a view of Asinara.

Hiking excursion to the Sinis Peninsula in western Sardinia

Near the town of Oristano, hiking trails lead along the sea over rugged cliffs to the Sinis peninsula off the coast. This picturesque landscape is known for its remoteness, where visitors can only hear the wind and the surf. The historic town centre of Oristano is home to the baroque cathedral of Oristano, seat of the archbishop. The historic city gate Torre di Mariano II is also worth seeing.

Events

Holidaymakers in Sardinia can look forward to top-class cultural events during their camping holiday - for example in the fields of literature and music.

June - July

  • Isola delle Storie: This extraordinary literary festival has been taking place in the village of Gavoi since 2004. Situated in the heart of the Gennargentu Nature Park, the picturesque village enchants visitors with its cosy squares and quiet alleyways. Many locals open their homes for readings, which are attended by writers, creative people and, of course, many book lovers.

August

  • Time In Jazz Festival: Every year, this music festival attracts thousands of music lovers to the small mountain village of Berchidda in the north of Sardinia. Top international acts perform here for a week, making Time In Jazz one of the most popular festivals in Italy. This is complemented by events in the fields of film, dance, theatre and art.
