Top tips

  • The Gloria Vallis campsite in Glorenza/Glurns in South Tyrol is a wonderful place to spend an upmarket camping holiday. The smallest town in Italy not only has an original preserved town wall, but also a whisky distillery that produces its tasty drops using the traditional pot still method. The Paul Flora Museum is also well worth a visit. Glurns has dedicated this place of remembrance to its son, a cartoonist who also illustrated books by Erich Kästner.
  • Not far from Glurns - half an hour's drive to the north - is Lake Reschen in the Vinschgau Valley, which is used as a reservoir for power generation. At the height of summer, kite surfers and sailors as well as endurance runners taking part in the Lake Reschen race can be found around the famous church tower that rises out of the cold mountain water.
