Camping by the lake in the Black Forest

That's why you should camp by the lake in the Black Forest:

  • Swimming fun at lidos and hidden bays
  • Sporty hiking excursions in the mountain landscape
  • Walks and cycle rides along the lakes
  • Fishing opportunities at lakes such as the Schluchsee

A holiday by the lake against a backdrop of densely wooded hills: This is what the Black Forest offers nature lovers. One of the most popular lakes for tourists is Tititsee near Titisee-Neustadt, where you can camp right on the shore. The Schluchsee offers small bathing bays. Its smaller neighbour Windgfällweiher is a tip for those seeking peace and quiet. Many lakes can be explored by pedalo and are suitable for stand-up paddling.

In addition to crystal-clear lakes and rivers, the extensive Black Forest region is home to many campsites with different orientations. Exciting forest and hilly landscapes are just as much a trademark of the Black Forest as delicious specialities from the local gastronomy. In south-west Germany, unforgettable beach holidays at very well-equipped campsites are standard. This is precisely why the number of returning holidaymakers who can confirm the phenomenon of love at first sight, at least when camping by the lake in the Black Forest, is on the rise.

Top tips

  • The Black Forest, with its forests, lakes and streams covering an area of over 6,000 km², is particularly suitable for nature lovers. The Westweg and the Schluchtensteig have established themselves among connoisseurs as fantastic routes for long walks with your dog. Lovers of wild streams, old wooden bridges and steep rock faces are recommended a hiking excursion in the Wutach Gorge.
  • A visit to the Tatzmania wildlife park in Löffingen is particularly suitable for families with children, as the zoo and leisure park has one of the largest predator enclosures in Europe.
  • Bad Dürrheim is recommended for physical and mental relaxation. The spa town has healing thermal springs and many wellness centres.

Activities and excursions

In addition to the abundance of natural landscapes, the Black Forest also stands for special regional specialities such as Black Forest gateau, which can be enjoyed on extended excursions.

Swimming fun for the whole family at the aqua fun leisure pool

The barrier-free aqua park in Schluchsee offers endless swimming and fun for the whole family. Unique equipment awaits the visitor and keeps them entertained. In addition to a well-equipped adventure playground for children, the facility also has a large sunbathing lawn for wonderful idleness under the warming sun. The 105 metre long giant slide, which winds its way down into the pool from high above, provides plenty of action. Bubble cushions, massage jets and a water mushroom complete the offer alongside numerous swimming pools. Sports enthusiasts also get their money's worth at aqua fun, as there is a beach volleyball court as well as opportunities to play football. In less favourable weather, the extensive fitness and games room is ideal for physical activity. aqua fun is also a great choice for lake lovers, as the swimming pool also has direct lake access to Schluchsee. The restaurant, which also has a sun terrace, serves good food.

Stroll through the alleyways of Freiburg im Breisgau

The city is regarded as the gateway to the Black Forest. With its close proximity to the 1,284 metre high Schauinsland mountain with its spectacular views and surrounded by rolling, tree-covered hills, the city is surrounded by magnificent scenery. The numerous streams in the old town centre flow past lovingly preserved house facades. This fact has earned Freiburg im Breisgau the nickname Little Venice, and it is particularly worth exploring the beautiful city on foot from Kaiser-Josef-Straße. The street divides the city into a western half with the town hall and the university, and an eastern half with the Cathedral of Our Lady. Other sights such as St Martin's Gate are located in the southern part of the city, while additional attractions such as the late Gothic Haus zum Walfisch, the Gothic St Martin's Church and the Town Hall Square are an integral part of Freiburg. A variety of excellent restaurants and cafés offer visitors excellent food and opportunities to relax and linger.

In the Black Forest, interesting events with a wide variety of themes are organised every year. The events complement your holiday at the campsite by the lake in the Black Forest in their very own way.
